Majora's Mask. Quite possibly the best Zelda game, and in my opinion, the best.
But what is it that makes this game so much better? Could it be the Story, the Difficulty, or the Originality? Actually, it is all of these combined. These, are the three main aspects of a Zelda Game in my opinion. They are interdependent. Without one the other will fail. I don't feel as if gameplay is a major factor, because it will not really change. Even from transition of console to console, Zelda remains the same style.
Let's take a look at Twilight Princess now. The Story wasn't bad at all, the originality was there, but the difficulty. It was no challenge at all. If you were like me, and beat the game in mere hours, you know what I mean. I really feel there is no more discussion needed about this game. It was so easy that, I didn't even feel it had a replay value.
Now, let's compare it to MM...
The difficulty in MM has yet to be rivaled by a single LoZ game. It was clearly difficult, frustrating, and addictive. There were parts that were ridiculously difficult on first go. So after you beat it, you wanted to go back and see if you could do it better.
The story, while a bit lacking, was fantastic for how it was played. Put it in a run of the mill LoZ game, and it wouldn't be good at all. But having 3 Days to do all of it, made it a challenge! You had to go back and forth, and back and forth. Backtracking and meandering back to where you had already been, because you didn't have enough time to do something. This is where the interdependence comes into play. The difficulty is aggravating you, as the clock goes by. The story and difficulty together MADE this game.
You've heard of the Seinfeld Curse. I give you the LoZ Curse. No game will match it, if they continue to dummy down the difficulty.
...this would be a lot more detailed and lengthy if it wasn't almost 3am. I'll fix it tomorrow. *yawns*
