Console Recording Help! [Matches to be Recorded this Friday]

So Darth Rancorous is coming over this Friday and we're gonna try and record some console matches. I have a DVR set up so that I can record the game onto a DVD-RW, which seems to work fine. I can play back the DVD-RW to watch the Smash footage on the DVR itself or on my computer with VLC Media Player.

I just need to figure out how to get the footage from the DVD-RW into a usable format on my computer (avi, mpeg, whatever). Right now it shows the disc and the only way to view it is with VLC media player, where the normal DVD menu pops up and you click on the title you want to watch that footage. So how do I get this video into a usable format??

Also, one smaller problem is that when I view the video on VLC it tends to lag/freeze in certain parts. The recording quality is set to SP (you adjust it in the DVR menu, not on the computer), which is the second to highest. Should I make the quality higher or lower to fix this? The lag/freezing doesn't happen when the disc is played back on my DVR.

Thanks for the help.

Nope I'm in Colorado for a week but I'll be in DC from the 25th until...well probably for like the next two or three years. If you're nearby we should definitely record some matches though.

EDIT: Ok the results are in. I got it working and I can now do 1080p full HD videos :). There should be some quality footage coming up this Friday.

(yes its 2 CPUs)

It looks really nice but its only at 30 fps which is why the movement part may look kind of weird at times.

haha well we had some good games regardless.

so i am going through the videos right now and sadly the first disc which contained our epic REVERSE 12 character battle is scratched as hell. its only letting me upload the first part of it which is pretty disappointing. ill see what i can do about maybe playing the second part on my dvd player and just camcordering it. other than that tho everything else looks good and will be up soon.

sounds like a RIP OFF of a FAKE 12 character battle that starts with Luigi and ends with JigglyPuff, so then it starts with JigglyPuff and ends with Luigi
