Confused on what to do for aerials

Well, recently I was playing my friend at Smash in a Marth ditto.I was using the c-stick for aerials, like I did many times before, but I wasn't doing too well.

Then I decided to take a new approach on aerials.I started using the Z button and the control stick to execute them.I found that I could do them much more easily, especially the SHDF.But I'm still a little confused on what I should really be pressing for aerials.Should I be using the Z button and the control stick,or the C-Stick?Or even A and the Control Stick?

Any help is appreciated.

This may sound odd but for double f-airs, I use the a button but for the second one, I use the c stick.

Any other time I use the a button unless its a d-air.

If you are losing in marth dittos, you are spacing yourself wrong.

Marth ditto combo: (at 0%)F-throw, F-throw, up-throw
Then do whatever you want..either up-tilts or u-airs...etc..

I see.I started to use the Z button for aerials because it was close enough to the Y button for me to be able to shorthop. And I could also use Z to l-cancel more easily.

I don't lose Marth dittos(most of the time) but I just had a hard time getting some combos in.Thanks for the advice.

The good thing about Smash is that you can use whatever controls are most comfortable for you; I personally only use the C-stick when doing UAir's and FSmashes. Most pros, however, will always recommend using the C-stick for every aerial because you get more control over DI and spacing; for example, you'll be able to stay in one spot perfectly while double FAir'ing if you use the C-stick for both FAirs. It's personal preference, though.

Just as the above said. If its comfortable, it'll work just fine. Shame that doesn't apply to waveshines tho.

stick to what's comfortable for you. when you get the timing down really well, try c-sticking a bit more. c-stick makes it a lot easier to do double fairs in place, retreating double fairs, and c-stick makes short hopped uairs a bit easier. I pretty much always cstick when i double fair unless i want to move forward a lot while doing fairs.

btw, waveshining isn't too bad. you just have to take it apart and do each part seperately to learn it

eh use any method you want, as long as you can do anything you want to do.

1. don't say never...i just woke up one day and found i could do it..after having given up fox for a year and a half because i didn't think i was technical enough

2. in general at the very least you want to use the C-stick for teh second aerial on dfairs...that way you have the ability to di back and keep your spacing a little..

it's better if you use the C-stick for both, but that's hard unless you use a claw grip (which i recently switched to)

however, if you practice hard enough you can do stationary dfairs just using anything for the first one and the c-stick for teh second aerial.

however, the trick is to not be holding a direction when you jump and then immediately get on and off the direction + a and then switch to c-stick for the second aerial while you correct the slight DI forward that occurred.

However, this method is hard and kinda a pain..

still i was able to space ok using that old method..not as good as clawing but more than adequate..in the end mind games are more important anyways. If you have trouble spacing dfairs because of the way you grip..i would suggest using them mainly for combos and stick to shffl aerials for approaching..along with all the other stuff (such as the stuff in Emblem lord's approaching with marth post)
