You know, I kind of like RPGs. Yes, I've been negative toward them in the past but I really do enjoy the genre (otherwise I wouldn't own so many). The crappiness is mostly because the RPG market is overloaded with bad games with stories written by people who seem to base their stories in some crappy anime they saw when they were twelve. But I have another problem, I have so many RPGs but I rarely ever finish them because I just don't have the time to sit down and play through one. But hey, I have two weeks off soon so I figured I'd see if I could get it done. But I'm looking for suggestions, either any of your favorites or maybe one that I already have. Here's a list of all of the RPGs/RPG-like games I own to get you an idea of what I like.

NES:

The Legend of Zelda

Zelda II: Link's Adventure

SNES:

Final Fantasy IV

Final Fantasy V

Final Fantasy VI

Chrono Trigger

Nintendo 64:

Paper Mario

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Nintendo Game Cube:

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

Star Fox Adventures

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

Nintendo Wii:

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Sony Playstation:

Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VIII

Final Fantasy IX

Chrono Cross

Sony Playstation 2

Final Fantasy X

Final Fantasy XII

Okami

Kingdom Hearts

Kingdom Hearts II

Sony Playstation 3

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Folklore

Bioshock

Sega Dreamcast

Grandia II

Shenmue

PC

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Never Winter Nights

Wow, that's a lot! I'm not really interested in hand-held games, but go ahead and suggest any RPGs that you'd like. Thanks for your support!

If you do go into handhelds, Bowser's Inside Story is a must. Aside from that, holy crap massive list. I'd probably have time to play through ~2 of those.

Yeah, I have this problem where I'll go out and buy an RPG, then realize that I don't have the time ever even possibly beat it. Out of all of the these games on the list, I've gotten through... nine of them. And this was over a perioid of a number of years, not weeks.

Anyway, I'll check out Bowser's Inside story, might be fun.

Was Knigts of the Old Republic one of them? If not, you should play that one first. Truly amazing.

No, started it. Loved it, never finished it. I only plan on playing through one RPG over the break, I'm consdering Shenmue (not really an RPG, but it's close enough) on the Dreamcast over most things at this point.

Granted I dont play many RPG's, but this game is arguably the best rpg, if not simply the best game I've played for many years.

LOL any ones I'd have suggested, you already have.

That said, I suggest: Chrono Cross. I am biased. It's my literal favorite, and I lost my copy, so just knowing someone else is enjoying it, brings me some peace.

Red Pin is the sexiest RPG tech ever! Kid is just awesome. The only downside to this RPG is that she's not in it for so much of the game.

Whoa, what's with all the first party games? Nintendo's not the only company in the world, you know.
If you're looking for suggestions, here's mine:

NES:

Crystalis

SNES:

Secret of Mana

Secret of Mana 2

Secret of Evermore

Super Mario RPG

Gamecube:

Yu-Gi-Oh: The Falsebound Kingdom

Playstation:

Legend of Mana

Threads of Fate

Koudelka

Playstation 2:

Dawn Of Mana

Shadow Hearts

Shadow Hearts: Covenant

Shadow Hearts: From The New World

Those are some of my favorites, and don't believe the reviews, they're all great games!

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is on PS2! You should check it out.

DUDE! Spoilers much?

But seriously, I haven't really play much of Chrono Cross (I actually bought it about a year ago, got all the way up until the first major city then stopped because of life getting in the way, then I kind of forgot about it). I really liked Kid though, it's nice to see a female character in a JRPG that doesn't act in any sterotypical maner.

oh, >< my bad!! I seriously thought everyone in the world had played this by now. d.o.h.

Play it, my friend. You'll be glad you did. *fixes last post*

Oh yah and I didn't see these listed:

Parasite Eve
Parasite Eve 2

Now I know they're not REALLY RPGs but, you had zelda in there so... yeah. These are both great games, though I personally enjoyed the 1st more, the 2nd LOOKs a million times better, and controls are better. The 1st one has better story, and I just have a soft spot for it. But yeah, if you've not played them, I'd highly recommend giving them a go.

I've heard of the first one (didn't know about the sequel), what are these games like? What are they about?

And to be honest, I pretty much count something that had strong RPG elements as an RPG (with some exceptions). So... yeah.

FFV would be a good choice. It's the best one in the series for my money. The characters have great personalities, the job system is fun, leveling up takes a while, but not too long, and the story is class A. Of course, it's always hard to refuse OOT :)

V was pretty cool. Although the story wasn't really anything good, they just recycled FFI's story. But I did like how the characters actually had personalities, although they did recycle FFIII's job system...

Meh, OoT was alright (ducks). I was honestly considering replaying TP, though...

what!?! where is it!?! NOOOOOO!

Believe you-me. Buy a DS (not a DSi cuz that one don't have no GBA slot) and get Golden Sun (GBA) and Golden Sun: the Lost Age (GBA). You'll be glad you did. And... ready? THE SUN RISES AGAIN! After a 6-year long wait... Golden Sun 3 is coming out on the DS (hence buying a DS, not a GBA)!

The best part is, once you're hooked on the legendary Golden Sun RPG series, you won't have to suffer for years on end waiting for the "tre"quel. These games ARE addicting. and there is a feature (just look it up online to learn how to use it) that lets you tranfer data from GS to GS:tLA... and possibly to GS3... so your efforts in the first game aren't entirely wasted once you beat it (I'm looking at you Final Fantasy). Just Beware: CLEAR DATA! when you beat ANY of the games in this series, and you get the option to save your data, save in an empty file... you'll kick yourself if you save over game data.

I am severely disappoint.

One of the highest rated Strategy RPGs with an amazingly seriously, non-stupid, story with lack of emo/love BS you see in FF today.

And you do not like.

Well, it was the game play to be honest. I was never a fan of strategy games in the first place, and I just did not like the game play.

Oh yes, and Final Fantasy VII was mediocre.
Or in other words: Ratings. Mean. Nothing to me.

Ha! Ok......... I'll try to not spoil anything, lol

Basically, these are branded survival horror action RGS's, but I really find them to be unique all around.

Parasite Eve:

Concept: The main character Aya Brae whom you control has to make her way through Manhattan to defeat a beast of untold power. Being a police officer she is trained in weapons combat and defense. She also has some strange inner powers that manifest themselves over time, and which the game's plot helps to develop hers and your understanding of.

Mechanics: The over-world is simply "sections" of the city which you may go to as they become necessary or available, and then within each section you can explore. Throughout each area you explore in 3rd person view, and encounter various monsters to kill and earn EXP, etc. As you search these areas you will find health items, ammo, and power ups for your weapons and armor, which you can take back to HQ to be fitted. Weapons and armor have "slots" which you assign specific attributes to. Imagine, say... an M-16 equipped with armor-piercing rounds, a bayonet, and whose ammo capacity and round velocity are also able to be increased. And that's just ONE weapon out of literally dozens. Same goes for her armor, can be upgraded, slots added to carry more stuff on her person, or have special defense abilities added (protection from fire, ice, poison, etc.).

Battle System: During an 'encounter' you will enter into a turn-based fight sequence. However, unlike normal RPGs, you still remain in control of your character's movements, so positioning plays an important role in your successful attack/defense. Your weapons have specific radius of effect, etc. You'll be fighting inside, outside, anywhere you can imagine, so topography becomes important. Once you've positioned yourself, you commit to your action, ie. attack, defend, cast etc. This action is then carried out. While this takes place you cannot move, so this is why positioning is important. The same goes for the CPU, and thus a round is complete. Rinse and repeat until they or you are dead.

Miscellaneous: The graphics are good, though the sprites are a tad... blurry? The areas however employ a complex mixture of still shots (VERY beautifully drawn) and scrolling areas, which makes the action seamless. It really is a treat to watch, but it may appear grainy in areas, so it's recommended you play in the dark to help illumination. The soundtrack is awesome as well. Overall this game is one of the best PSX games, however it being a PSX game, you may have trouble finding it, lol. Unfortunately the PE series did no do so hot in the American market, because it was overshadowed by RE and written off by many as an RE clone. It is however, nothing. like. re. it does right what RE fails to do, basically and IMHO.

Parasite Eve 2:

Concept: The main character Aya Brae after the epic events of Parasite Eve has decided to become a professional hunter/killer of those nasty monsters anywhere else they may be.

Mechanics: This game is far more linear than the first, so there is no real.. over-world perse, though you can travel between sections you beat, you cannot sequence-break nearly as easily. The weapon/armor system is a little more forgiving in this sequel. Its predecessor has a nasty habit of making decisions final about upgrades, thus sometimes ruining LOTS of effort with one bad or accidental selection. Overall it is a good improvement on the upgrade system.

Battle System: The battle system, unfortunately undergoes kind of an overhaul from the first game. Be it because the first was too unlike RE, or what, I don't know, but I suspect that's the case. In this game, you still have free-range motion during a fight, however the action does NOT stop when you make your decision. Instead, it is pretty much identical to RE, you have to run-n-gun your enemies, and they have free-range motion as well, which means the action is VERY fluid, but is way more like RE and less PE. I didn't care for this change, but this game did sell more because of it.

Miscellaneous: The graphics are unbelievable. You'll swear you're looking at a PS2 game for much of it. Excellent use of FMV and whatnot. The story is just as engaging, and the game does seem to be a bit larger. At any rate, they're both VERY GOOD GAMES and I highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys a strong story, good graphics, unique equipment systems, etc. It's a definite sit-down-a-while-and-commit series of games. If you're hooked, don't despair, PE3 will be coming to PSP shortly, if not already.

...FINAL. FANTASY. VI.

The best FF game out there, IMHO. Great plot, non-stereotypical villian(Kefka is amazing), wide cast of characters, each with their own individual perks and reasons, not to mention:

PLAYABLE MOOGLES.

That being said:
Four-man run-through of Tales Of Symphonia

Also, since you have a PS2, buy Disgaea. Both of them. Believe me, if you like SRPGs, you'll LOVE Disgaea.

The prinnies are awesome.

Thank you for the recommendations, but I hated Tales of Symphonia.
