Gather around East asian smashers...

Do you ever hear some idiot say the term "ching-chong" to you? I mean since kindergarden up till around 5th grade I heard random people say this to me and other random east asians. My question is what does this odd term mean? Is it an insult? This random word has no meaning in my asian language dialect and I'm wondering why they say it. Do they think saying odd combinations of sounds offend individuals of foreign origin?

I think we should do something about this! Next time they say this we should say a random thing too. How about cookiil? Or matandoze? Better watch out what your pets do too. Your pet chicken might accidentally insult an italian police officer. That neighborhood dog might accidentally make a racial comment about the dutch mayor.

In other words, using words which you perceive to be of foreign origin is neither funny nor witty in any way. However, it does make you look like a total ******* and jerk.

It's a racial sterotype of asian languages, that it's just a few letters thrown together. I remember seeing a guy just go "Chinqinchonglonglinoukchin" to a guy who speaks chinese and then asked him to translate what he said, because he really thought he was saying random words in chinese

This doesn't apply to all asshats who use this term though. Some may be foolish enough to think that but if they believe that then it would also be equally fair to assume that that term "Chinqinchonglonglinoukchin" may be random "authentic" english words.

Idiots at my school do it all the time, it's under construction and asian guys are working on it. I don't even think anyone knows if they're chinese, they just call them that because they look like it.

Considering the majority of pupils are black [including myself], I thought they would avoid such a racist act since blacks are mainly the targets of racism and making fun of another culture/race would be no better than the Europeans enslaving the Africans, but I was wrong.

I'm pretty sure those guys are the main ones offended when someone tries to emulate black culture with hip hop and all that crap that they're notorious for.

You'd think the accident at Virginia Tech would have taught them otherwise.
Oh well, I would just call them white bread, because that makes no sense AND it's offensive.
I myself am not of Asian descent but understand your plight. Also, just remember the redneck stereotype whenever you talk to somebody like that. For the stupid people who don't know, that stereotype is that 60% of rednecks grow up to marry their cousin (and/or sister).

Sadly, I have no advice for against black kids who do that. I only know white insults because my school is almost all white.

They're basically making fun of Cantonese, because Mandarin sounds nothing like that.

Racist sentiment aside, I'm Chinese and even I think Cantonese sounds funny. I mean it does have a lot of twangy sounds and drawn-out vowels.

It's just racism. And poor racism at that.

I live in a very white community. I am Indian (as in my parents came from India) and I get a lot of stupid comments about curry, Buddha, Allah, or other stereotypical Indian/Arab things.

I used to get real mad about these comments but it generally just pleases the person who's saying them. Most of the time it's just from people I know trying to get a rise out of me, so I just laugh it off. These people know me, and hell, I'm pretty sure they know what they're saying is stupid.

I speak Cantonese on a ten year old level. It also doesn't sound anything like "chingchink".

It never bothered me at all. When I first heard someone say "Ka-chink!" I lol'd.

Hey, common, ching-chong. What'd I just say?

In New Hampshire, I have 5 non-white people in my school. One Asian, three Hispanic (or is it Latino?), and one black guy.

Hmm... Well, in Cantonese, "ching" could mean clear, and "chong" could mean bed.
You have to stress the i sound in ching and pronounce chong as you would long.

There is probably more than a single meaning for both of the words, but, as I said, I'm pretty lousy at the language.
