I think this thread is just another time bomb waiting to explode.
Going to have to agree. Best contribute to the thread in a polite and respectable manner while you can!

Anyways, here's a short list from me:

Ghirahim: I love Ghirahim, he has a great personality for a Zelda villain. But he's a one-off villain that will most likely never appear in a main Zelda game again.

Midna: Similar to Ghirahim, a great one-shot character that will be never heard from again.

Cranky Kong: I love me some Cranky (more in the original trilogy then in tropical Freeze though), but man, Cranky getting in before K. Rool (or even Dixie!) would really drop my morale to dangerous levels

Lyndis (FE): By far my favorite fire Emblem Lord (tied with Hector though), but her inclusion would seem extremely forced to me.

Captain Syrup: A great villain for Wario, who's greed even rivals that of Wario. Still, she's just isn't notable anymore. She's was only a villain for 2 games, and her "revival" in Wario Land: Shake it! just made her an NPC. A shame too, if she has gotten into more games with Wario she would definitely be a contender, but as things stand now she doesn't qualify.

Daisy: My go-to character in Mario sports games (especially Golf and Tennis) but I think she is completely unnecessary in Smash Bros.

Why isn't Rosalina a choice? A character being confirmed doesn't exempt them from my "What the **** are YOU doing here?" list.
This. With this in mind, here are characters that are in the game that I LOVE, but don't want:

Rosalina: Yup, her. She's quickly becoming my favorite character in Mario (especially with me not agreeing with how Nintendo has been handling Wario lately for the past years), who's backstory I loved, but man her getting confirmed still doesn't sit right with me. And trust me, I really do love Rosalina.

Toon Link: Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda of all time. The Link that appears in that game, also, is by far my favorite Link and is the only Link in the entire franchise that I can even somewhat relate too. His expressions and how he reacted throughout the game mirrored my own. With that said, I am 100% against his inclusion completely.

Huh...
Yea, I guess I would have voted for Toon Link if I had included him. Same reasons.
Agreed w/ Daisy and Lyn.
Lyn is so awesome.
I do think we'll see Midna again though. I don't think her story is done.
A Twilight Princess sequel has been rumored, so my fingers are crossed.
Why doesn't Rosalina sit right with you? She's my favorite newcomer so far, honestly.
And I don't think this thread will explode.
It includes a positive and a negative, So having votes vs not having votes means nothing unless there's an explanation.

Her inclusion seems forced imo. It seems like they just added her in because she's the new hot thing right now, not because she has any lasting popularity or iconicness, and it also seems to me that they need to slow down with her a bit before everyone gets tired of her. While I'm not surprised at all by her quick popularity, I still feel that she needed more appearances in Mario games before she was to be considered.

Of course, with that said, my love for her as a character is the main reason I wasn't nearly upset as others, and she seems to have a killer moveset (I can't believe people actually thought she would turn into a Peach clone) but still, I can't shake of the feeling that her inclusion is really stretching it. But I'll probably warm up to it. :)

Why is that?
Look how all the previous threads here with the same topic/intentions turned out.

Going to have to agree. Best contribute to the thread in a polite and respectable manner while you can!
Out of possible choices, I don't think there's many characters I like but would not want in Smash really. Not wanting a character to feel too nerfed or toned down is about the only reason I wouldn't want someone I like to be in Smash, in which case... I guess Bayonetta comes to mind for that.

Oh, and I agree that they should slow things down a bit with Rosalina in the future before she becomes too worn out/overused, but eh, you know how Nintendo is with whoring out their Mario characters.

Wow, I wasn't expecting a poll. Anyways, I voted.

Hmm, Cranky Kong and Groose are at the top. Interesting...

Cranky Kong was expected, given his competition.

Why do I feel like I know where this is going?
Best not be talking 'bout Ridley, boy.
:smirk:

There are other characters that fit this, too. In a sense Ganondorf already does this, he's altered pretty far from his source material (not out of necessity in this case, but as a result of being a cloned character in Melee). I wasn't trying to pick on Ridley, but I guess it's a complaint Ridley supporters are used to hearing.

I love most Nintendo characters... well I atleast like most Nintendo characters. That doesn't mean I think they are cut out for Smash. I pretty much checked off most of them except the ones I want to get in.

Toad, Shadow, Daisy, Cranky Kong, I don't like Tingle full stop let alone in Smash Bros, also Pac-man, but mostly Ghostly Adventures Pac-man.

For me it's Roy and Medusa. Medusa because she's too similar to Palutena in terms of physique, so she'd probably be a clone. Roy because he already is a clone and they did nothing notable with the fire in Melee.

When it comes to character I do not want to see, yet absolutely love...

Pacman - I just do not see any potential for a move set really, also... I never considered Pacman to be all that important to Nintendo's history. The pac-man games I played that were memorable to me were on other consoles that weren't Nintendo. If there's any Namco character I want in Smash, it isn't Pac-Man, but instead this guy:

Groose - Groose would make for a great AT, but not as a playable character. Unless he somehow becomes a recurring Zelda character with actual importance, then he has no chance of ever getting the playable spot.

Miis can be plenty of fun in some games, mostly the ones designed with them originally in mind. But in Smash, no no no no no no.

Rosalina also fits this. While I always found her very overrated within the Nintendo fanbase, I liked her story and how she's basically running a big orphanage for the little Lumas. I didn't want her in Smash though, and while I'm impressed with what Sakurai did with her, I still don't think she should have taken a spot.

There's also pretty much the whole Mother cast except Porky. I love characters like Kumatora, Paula, Duster, Jeff, etc, but they're not Smash material at all. Porky is Smash material imo though, and I'd love to see him, but that's really nothing but a wish.

Other than that it's mostly reserved to more minor characters, like Dark Samus.

I think she was added for the moveset.
Remember, she was added before the 3d world announcement where she became the most popular pick on Miiverse.
So at the time, she wasn't a popular pick for Smash Bros and wasn't very recurring.
Moveset and surprise were the factors I think. I don't see any "force"
I think she might have been added to the end of 3d world for Smash. To get her more fans and hype. THey even released the silhouette of her character stamp in the list long before she was confirmed. Seems lead up to, not really forced.
She's important, popular, and unique now, so I think she has everything going for her to be "deserving"

------------------------------
I'm actually starting to want Lyn. Her game is so fun. I love her, Sain, Kent, Florina, Wil...
But I'll just stick with hoping her assist returns and the rest get a trophy/ sticker...

Still on Rosalina are we? I can agree that a select couple or so Mario characters like Toad should've gotten in before her based on having a longer history with Nintendo and being more iconic and all that, but she's not any less deserving of taking a spot than ZSS and the like.

If you had asked me before her reveal, I would have said no to Rosalina. Having seen her in action, after having an opportunity to see what she's going to bring in terms of new mechanics and new gameplay styles, I'm perfectly happy with her inclusion. Our own preconceptions about how a character might work are not always correct.

all the Mario characters (that aren't the Mario Bros., Peach, Bowser, and counting with Yoshi and Wario, of course*) principally the RPG characters...
Not a special reason but, ... putting a lot of those (great) characters in Smash would feel weird,.. like, "Mario & Nintendo All-Stars Fighting Arena", lol... for put all of them (Geno, Fawful, Wart, etc) the roster should get big proportionally for all the series present;... and I don't see this happening,.. not now, at least (maybe in Smash 35, ...maybe, lol).

* - Not counting DK characters, of course... They're Mario's friends, but not the same franchise (Wario and Yoshi are not either, but they're most frequent in Mario Series, and they were designed and borned in that franchise, so).

Huh, SmashBoards seems pretty negative about Rosalina compared to the like... 3 people on Miiverse that don't like her.
That's funny. Well I like all of the newcomers so far. Haven't been disappointed yet.
Hopefully a new one comes soon.

And, huh... Cranky Kong and Groose are still tied with the most votes.

Damn it, that poll accepted my accidental vote for Krystal.
Oh, I can subtract it when I make a tally.

I meant that she's too similar to Palutena, so a moveset for her probably wouldn't do the character justice.
Too Similar... in Physique?

Palutena is the Goddess of Light and Medusa is the Goddess of Darkness, so yes logically they are somewhat similar in build. Especially for a fighting game: both stand upright, both wield staffs, etc.

I meant that she's too similar to Palutena, so a moveset for her probably wouldn't do the character justice.
I'm guessing that despite the potential for Medusa, your problem with Medusa is that you think Sakurai would get lazy and go about her moveset the easy way and just make her a clone? (Forgive me if I'm presuming)

While a character's potential of ending up a clone shouldn't at all effect their chances, it certainly isn't impossible. We have plenty of clones/semi-clones throughout the Smash Bros series to prove that Sakurai doesn't always think about character potential like we do.

Still, in the future I hope Medusa is considered for a Kid Icarus rep with Pit and Palutena.

@ andimidna andimidna Oh I most certainly agree, Medusa most likely won't make a Palutena clone. I was playing Devil's advocate, and was reasoning why @ Chase Chase thinks she will just get thrown in as a clone.

Of course, I would hope such a terrible thing never happens.

I haven't voted in the poll yet, but I think my opinions need to be heard.

A Skyward Sword character: Hear me out. I adore Skyward Sword. Ghirahim is among my favorite villains. Groose is awesome. However, as his namesake stated before, Groose is not the hero, and that's a huge part of his character. Ghirahim has moveset potential everywhere, but until he reappears in another Zelda game, he'll be only behind Tingle in my mind. He still beats Vaati, though.

More Sonic characters: Did I mention I love Sonic? It's incredibly fun to play. I'll spend hours playing Sonic 2 with Knuckles. But even if I adore Tails and Knuckles, it's a Nintendo game, not a general crossover. Until Nintendo buys SEGA, I'd rather that the Sonic series stays with the Blue Blur.

Roy: Roy in Melee was amazing. But people need to move on from Melee and give other characters a chance. I'm not saying Roy should never appear in another Smash, but currently all I see that needs to return is Mewtwo, who's moveset potential and popularity have risen since Brawl.

*applause*

That was a great analysis of the 3.
There are simply too many votes for Ghirahim.
Woah. Is he tied for 3rd now? Wow.

For Mario, I like using Daisy in the games. She has a more lively personality than most of the characters in that franchise, however I do not want her in Smash, mostly because she would just seem like a random choice, someone to fill the numbers. Mind you I'd take her over Bowser Jr. who I have simply no opinion for. I also genuinely believe she's more deserving than that kid.

In Zelda, I like many villains...but they shouldn't be in the game. I feel that the current 4/5 represent the series as a whole pretty well.

In Donkey Kong, I greatly enjoy Lanky and Funky but both shouldn't get in before King K. Rool or Dixie who represent the series better than those two.

There's nobody in Star Fox, Fire Emblem, Metroid and F-Zero that I like that I wouldn't enjoy having in the game, mostly because I like the more obvious choices in those franchises that might stand a genuine chance of getting in.

There's simply way too many Pokémon to mention that will obviously not get into the game or get my support.

From Earthbound, I like Porky as a villain but don't support him being a character in Smash. The two main kids are enough for me.

From Kirby, I like Waddle Dee, but him being in Dedede's moveset is the best way to utilise him in my view.

From Kid Icarus it's Dark Pit. He's just meant to be a color palette.

What about the opposite? Characters you love in Smash but hate in their own games?

Well, there's Bowser in Mario Kart & Party. Too slow in my opinion, and a jerk in Party. But in the M&L games, he makes up for it.

Pretty much Mii. Miis are neat little avatars and are important to NIntendo history but i just don't want it. It would be kind of cheesy to have them in a fighting game.

It would be good enough to have a custom VIllager character. We dont need 2 customizable slot.

Waluigi isnt good enough to be on this list, I take it. I'm fine with that being the explanation.

Wii Fit Trainer for sure.
She's a hilariously awesome fighter for Smash Bros, but in Wii Fit she gets all bossy and tells me what to do. Plus she makes me exercise.
