Pit out ranges Mario in a lot of ways. I think this matchup is in Pit's favor but that's only based on my own experience against tons of scrubby Mario's in FG. Good Mario players rely heavily on fireballs. A common tactic is to approach, jump, fireball, land, fireball, then dash grab followed by down throw and up tilts. This will work on you if you sit in shield during his approach to block the fireballs allowing him to dash grab you. Either jump if you see this tactic or spot dodge the dash grab.
