i saw on another thread that people knew this was fake when they saw mewtwo. i figured it was fake no matter what, but knew for sure at yoshi, as that's a widely used image. they said they knew at mewtwo because it didn't look right, but i though it looked great. i think mewtwo also proves it fake, because how would you unlock him early? you wouldn't. and if this was some beta roster display or something, wouldn't they just have all the characters available for play testing? also if you look closer at the selected characters, their shadow extends into the white space, which doesn't look aesthetically correct. but hey at least they had the mind to translate names that needed to beEven though this is fake, I really hope the colors are like the official character select screen.

I think Wario will still have his WarioWare costume as his default because he's representing that series.

Also, to be fair I used Pit, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Villager, Sonic, DK and Link icons for placeholders until I made the other veterans.

Well, I'm back... Almost 6 years later. Great work an all those pictures, guys. I just hope that on the character selection screen, it just says "Rosalina" and "Olimar", and not "Rosalina & Luma" and "Pikmin & Olimar".

I don't really agree that Dark Samus is feasable, but I'll let that rest.
On a unrelated note, I never got why the scan data referred to Dark Samus as a female. It's a Phazon-charged Metroid (which has no specified gender) combined with a Phazon Suit, it really shouldn't have a gender, and if anything it'd be male because the Phazon Suit is made up from the Omega Pirate's leftovers.
Oh, and just to stay a bit on topic, I really like the style of the fake leak where it draws from the official website, looks really good.

The game and series is still recognized by the public as one of Nintendo's most creative and beloved franchises.
Besides, we still had characters like ROB and PIt, and yes, while retro and iconic, still represented older Nintendo franchises. Shulk hasn't been around long enough to earn a slot on the roster if you ask me, but Isaac has been around for 13 years, and he's already made an appearance in Smash, and had a song represented as well. Seems to me Sakurai recognizes the series as imporant.

Well, yeah, but that's because Dark Samus would most likely be a semi-clone. Sakurai never goes for the easy way anyways unless it's a last minute addition.
Ridley is still very possible to make, but I'm not going to derail the thread with a million counterpoints, so I'll just leave it and say that we disagree on that part.

Dark samus has no reason to be a clone, he could easily make it completely different from samus

Same can be said for Lucas, Roy, Luigi and Wolf, but they're still semi-clones.
Dark Samus is a last-minute addition if anything, it heavily lacks popularity and is hardly even acknowledged in Japan, plus the character has no future in the franchise either. Even then there are much more important characters to add all together, characters aren't going to get in solely for repping an under-repped franchise.
But again, let's not derail the thread, this has to be taken to the Dark Samus thread if anything.

I was thinking we'd get ice climbers on the 30th cause thats the anniversary of their game but we got lucario on the 31st which I have no problem with since Fav pokemon + more pokemon reps in smash = YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

How do you folks think the character portraits will be organized?
Some mockups of the character selection screen. To make effective use of as much screen area as possible, I have the character portraits extending from edge to edge. On the left screen, that's the "nine or ten columns with five rows" setup that seems to be pretty popular in prediction/wishlist rosters. On the right is a more conservative setup with just three rows of fourteen. (I personally prefer this one.)
I don't think we'll see series grouped by columns like they were in Brawl, especially now that the Mario series goes up to five. I think characters of the same series will be grouped horizontally instead, more like in Melee.
