Now that Sakurai has justified his reasoning for adding Lucina to the game, I have come to the conclusion that she is a lazy and uninspired character. Not only does Sakurai contradict himself in his interview, he also fails to acknowledge Chrom's great potential as a character even after he's played the entirety of FE: Awakening. How could he have played an entire game about this character and conclude he was not interesting enough to be a new Smash character? There was not one thing interesting about him that could translate into Smash Bros? Not buying this lie. In all honesty, Lucina's inclusion seems like a cash-grab, and a large part of the community is falling for it.

Also, it's important to note that a lot of people have pointed out that in Awakening, Chrom has a wide array of different weapons at his disposal and one of those being a lance. Would it have hurt for a lance-wielding Chrom to take priority over a cloned Lucina? To me, it sounds like Sakurai was bull****ting his reason for why Chrom did not make the cut. Conversely, I would be 100% content with Lucina if her moveset was original. I have nothing against the character herself at all. That said, I say we form a community to voice our disdain with Lucina's lazy inclusion. She should be changed or replaced.

Any ideas how this can be accomplished? In regard to this ambitious goal, if you are a pessimist, I would appreciate you to refrain from commenting.

The fact that Chrom was even considered for development means that Sakurai found interest in him. In reality, being another blue-haired swordsman is what sakurai found to be unappealing. I could care less how deep chrom's moveset could've been because lances, Robin was the infinitely better choice simply for being a different class with magic. Lucina is just an alt that got bumped to Roy status because he felt like it. Get over it.

Hm. Well. I'm not a pessimist; I'm a realist. But I can tell that my long-winded explanation of why this cannot feasibly happen and expecting it to would be a complete waste of time and energy (not to mention getting hopes up for no reason) would be seen as "pessimistic".

So, y'know, whatever. Go team.

Y'know, a this point in development, the 3DS version is practically done. They're probably sorting out a few bugs but other than that by mid-August it will most likely be a 100% completed game. For this happen, the game would get delayed to a holiday release. Do you want that? And due to their working on the 3DS game, the Wii U version would be pushed to March 2015. Thanks a lot, dude, you delayed Smash Bros.

So that means you are better off if the character was cut? she's a clone for a reason ! because she's there to save on resources, It was either get Lucina or get no one!.
"I would be 100% content with Lucina if her moveset was original." < shows that you obviously didn't read. If you are not for my cause, then goodbye sir. He never explicitly said her purpose was to save resources. So again, Sakurai being lazy. If that was the case he wouldn't have provided a irrational explanation for her being a clone. Her sharing "DNA" is not a way to get around the fact that she is a clone.
Or you can just deal with it.
Why are you coming here to be pessimistic? That's cool

Lucina never competed with Chrom for a spot.

Chrom was never in development.

Seriously.

I don't know why's it so hard to understand, Chrom didn't get in because Robin was just a far better choice in every way, not because he was competing against Lucina in a contest of uniqueness, and they wouldn't just do two completely new FE characters. Lucina got in as an extra because she works as a clone, if Sakurai had wanted her to be an unique character, she wouldn't have made it either because resources are just going to Robin.

It's either the characters we have now, getting Chrom as a clone instead of Lucina, or just stick to three, we were never meant to get four FE characters, it just happened because it was simple to implement and a cool bonus.

Be grateful, man.

I do think they should make her a little bit more different with stats adjustments and **** so she's more than just easy-Marth now that she's getting her own slot, but fact is, she's an extra character that's barely affecting the development of anything else, so it barely even matters anyway.

It's too late for this stuff. I do feel a little disappointed that the ONLY difference for Lucina is her nontipper sword, hurtbox and hitboxes. She's more cloney than any clone thus far in a Smash Bros game.

I like how you obviously didn't read the interview. It was never "Chrom vs. Lucina". It was Chrom vs. Robin and Robin is by far a better choice than Chrom in my opinion. Lucina just got extremely lucky. She was meant to just be an alternate costume for Marth at first but in the end Sakurai decided she was different enough to get her own roster spot. Lucina did not take a spot away from anyone, nor was she even planned to be on the roster from the beginning so your complaints are worthless.

If you don't like her the way she is, either change her in customization or don't play her. No one, absolutely no one with half a brain is going to agree with you here.

Lucina literally replaced no one. She was just a fancy alt costume they decided to use as a character.

Sakruai never wanted Chrom; as he thought Chrom was boring af. (Which he's right.)

Just think of Lucina as a little extra character. This thread is dumb.

Robin came easily as a moveset, being both a magic and sword user and even mixing in dark magic in the same way Ness takes moves from others in his game.

Chrom was decided not to be in the game earlier than Lucina was made into her own slot, because at first she was simply an alternate costume of Marth, but decided adding her different properties such as her height, sword and possibly speed and angles of animations should make her into her own slot for battle records and such. He even goes to say she was very lucky to make it in.

Consider her a bonus character. That's what I'd say.

Chrom was never replaced, he would be the 3rd Male Lord with Blue hair in the game. At least being female from a very female heavy franchise helps that.

The reason Sakurai didn't include Chrom was because he would have [probably made him] been bland. Lucina was planned as an alt for Marth that was different enough to warrant a complete character in Sakurai's terms. So in the end we get the same result, a blue hair swordsperson who got Roy-ified. Yes, it is frustrating, because then by that logic Chrom should have just stayed in. But you can't always get what you want and this happens. Lucina got in because she had a lot of fanbase (not that Chrom didn't, but still) and also because her status as a female was appealing for Sakurai. If Sakurai decided to keep Chrom in, he could have been a clone or bland, I don't know the real reason but whatever it was it wasn't up to Sakurai's standards, so Lucina got in. It wasn't really her versus Chrom, although it appears that way at face value. There's high chances she was already further in development than Chrom and although clones are kind of meh, it's much easier to base a moveset off a character that already has a preestablished moveset. It saves you time, and most likely money as well when you consider resources, equipment, and hours of labor. In the end, Sakurai's reasoning seems to be specious, but he's the one working on the game. Maybe Chrom will get in as DLC or something. Or get his place in the next Smash. In my opinion there are several other characters who deserve a spot over him, and I think the reasoning behind Robin getting in versus him was quite sound. I understand why you're frustrated, but this is something that would most likely be a waste of time and have little impact. But if you decide to continue it, good luck. Although the reception to your idea might not be the warmest here haha

Okay cool. You should definitely hop off this thread now. I never stated that this was a Chrom vs. Lucina. I am stating that Lucina shouldn't be a clone, or else she should possibly be replaced as another option. But you obviously did not read my reasoning.

What cash is he grabbing for adding another character onto the roster? It's not like she's taking up a slot, she's just an added bonus that Sakurai decided to give to us during this time because of Robin's confirmation trailer. Also Captain Falcon.
Robin made it in over Chrom(for obvious reasons), so I guess you gotta deal with it.

there is literally nothing that can be done about this so why even waste the energy to make a topic?

oh **** there's a second Marth in the game that is easier to control, better complain about that and overlook the 10 (12 if you include each Mii) completely unique and incredible newcomers

Lucina didn't replace anyone on the roster. Like many people said in here, she was originally an alternate costume for Marth that got her own slot. If you dislike the character, then don't play as her. That's all.

Again you're showing how much you aren't reading. The thing is Lucina is basically bonus content at this point. Delaying the game to change Lucina or put someone else in would be very silly considering Lucina was not originally planned. Besides, you made it sound like it was Lucina vs. Chrom based on how much you talked about Chrom being a better choice. If it makes you feel better, you can pretend Lucina is just an alternate costume like she was supposed to be, but there's no point in getting worked up over it.

While I find his reasoning hilarious since he said "He doesn't churn out a bunch of same characters, that isn't how he makes games"

then later says Lucina is exactly the same in speed, power, and moves but has a different sweetspot(none)...I don't care enough to care about this request.

I like fire emblem awakening but I already got a character I want form there. Robin. Chrom seems like he would have been a better choice since SLow speed = Ike, fast = Marth, Middle = Robin and Chrom. Buuuuut...meh.

Do what you like :p I am not going to tell you to stop having an opinion. Just don't be a jerk about it.

I am not currently laboring any disdain towards Lucina's inclusion. In fact, I prefer her to be a clone, not just any clone either, an improved version of Marth (for those of us with less than ideal spacing). I mean, she has a Guile taunt. Lazy inclusion, my ass!

It isn't a matter of getting rid of Lucina and adding Chrom. That was never the issue. It was Chrom or Robin, Lucina was going to be there regardless. Sakurai opted to go with the magic user because Chrom was not different enough from the other FE characters thus far. Lucina was going to be an alt, and got split into her own character.

She isn't hurting anyone.

Here's what's important: Sakurai didn't see creative potential in Chrom. Sure, there may be some, but he didn't see it. Therefore Chrom doesn't get in. Sakurai doesn't mind giving characters abilities that they don't use in their games of origin (like Robin's Nosferatu), which means if Sakurai really wanted to, he'd have added Chrom and given him more than standard swordplay. I think what it came down to is: Chrom would be the third, blue-haired male Fire Emblem lord. The characters just got to feeling too similar to Sakurai, so he found Chrom boring in comparison to Robin and Lucina. Perhaps therew was a four-slot FE impetus, so he was looking to fit the bill. Judging from his enthusiasm for Robin, he was sold immediately. A female FE lord who admires Marth (that could be easily created, based on Marth's moveset) probably just looked way more appealing and plausible.

So yeah, it's basically: do you want Lucina or not? Because Chrom's not getting in. Not yet. This is a matter of the roster being one character more or not. I prefer the former. Plus, females are always welcome.

I don't get worked up over the Internet. That's childish. Sure, it's a far-fetched goal and obviously, I don't mind a delay if I was bold enough to make this topic. You guys are the ones who are attacking me for having an unpopular opinion. In regard to your comment, I think the customization aspect of this game is worthless too. But that's for another topic that I won't create. Especially when people like you band together like a wave of Internet goons. Newsflash dude, such vitriolic comments mean nothing to me. I thought this was a discussion forum, but I was wrong.

I read the entire interview. I know that it was never Chrom vs. Lucina. I'd simply like Lucina to be changed if that would make you guys feel better. Add Chrom as a fifth FE slot, if that is a more plausible inclusion, which it is.

The point is that they won't do two unique Fire Emblem characters, it's either clone, or no fourth FE char.

Seems reasonable enough. I doubt he is going to alter her move-set though. It looks as though it is already complete.
