CCAT 1 - Yanmega

This is our first poll, deciding on the lead partner for Yanmega. The four options are listed below.

Aerodactyl - The fastest Stealth Rock user and the third-fastest Taunt user, Aerodactyl can quickly prevent and set up Stealth Rocks, though it usually faints in the process. Has problems with lead Infernape because of Fake Out, ScarfJirachi because of speed and Iron Head, and Metagross with Bullet Punch.

Azelf - While not as fast as Aerodactyl, Azelf boasts high Attack and Special Attack stats, while still retaining Taunt and Stealth Rock. Has problems with Aerodactyl, Tyranitar, and Metagross with Bullet Punch.

Jirachi - With a Choice Scarf, Jirachi is the fastest lead out there and can quickly set up Stealth Rock or Trick away its Scarf to lock an opponent into Stealth Rock. It can also pray for hax and try to flinch its way through leads like Aerodactyl and Infernape. Has trouble with Heatran, Infernape, and Metagross.

Starmie - Rapid Spin is Starmie's main selling point. It can use Surf or Hydro Pump to reduce Pokémon like Infernape to 1 HP and finish them off with Rapid Spin, clearing the field of entry hazards. However, it cannot set up its own entry hazards.

Please remember that no other team members have been decided yet.

Since I can't actually make a poll, we'll have each member only post the lead they would like to see as the partner. I'll be abstaining, and will tally all the votes below.

Votes:

Aerodactyl - 2
Azelf - 1
Jirachi -
Starmie - 10

Azelf.

Aero is just too frail, and Azelf can at least STOP most problematic leads from getting SR out at all.

Why didn't you just have someone who can create polls make the thread like we do with BOTW?

Anyway, I vote for Aerodactyl.

it's a different lead that actually can remove the rocks and defeat most leads and getting hazards up isn't that hard with another bulky pokemon (like swampert or hippowdon)

Starmie.

Nothing prevents the Pokemon that Azelf/Aerodactyl Taunt from switching out and coming back in, while a lot of other leads actually beat those leads nowadays. Jirachi only stops a few leads from getting up SR, while Tricking its Scarf means that we still need to have a Spinner on our team to get rid of SR. Starmie can reliably OHKO/2HKO leads and Spin away rocks at the same time.

Starmie.

Greatest win chance.

Paired with a ScarTar (or not because of Yanmega's typing) we can get rid of any Spin blockers.

Starmie.

Obviously I'm gonna pull for my suggestion, but it suits an offensive team while providing spin support AND dealing with almost any bulky stealth rock lead.

Starmie. I don't like leads that only serve to get up SR, and I like the idea of Starmie being somewhat of an anti-lead and a lead at the same time.

I say Starmie simply due to the momentum it provides. Yanmega would love that offensive high right from the get-go; no matter what set we run (although I think Specs would certainly like it more, all things considered).

starmie for reasons stated. It also has a tendency to lure out Blissey, so we can already prepare to rid of her before we unleash yanmega.

7 Starmie, 1 Aerodactyl, and 1 Azelf. **** off, Jirachi

this isn't a vote but i just realized for starmie we can run:

Starmie @ Choice Scarf
Timid/Natural Cure
252 Spe/252 SpA/6 HP
Surf/Hydro Pump
Ice Beam/Thunderbolt
Rapid Spin
Trick

It out-runs all leads, tricks them into one move and can remove hazards, while still hitting pretty hard

only problem with that is it lacks the power to kill off slower versions of ttar and gets easily trapped by dumb things like scizor and scarftar. Yes, things can get screwed over with trick, but if they go to a spinblocker after their bulky lead takes the scarf and sets up rocks, then starmie doesn't serve its purpose. Dealing heavy damage is more important for it than messing things up with trick.

edit: lol ninja'd

HOLY **** that's such an innovative set. I've never seen it before, especially not on Smogon.

Also, that set is a crappy ScarRachi.

it was just a suggestion, i mean it can do what scarfrachi does while also removing SR

Starmie. Removing hazards immediately and hitting hard are great assets over the other leads.

For the record, Aero doesn't have trouble with Infernape because it can't 2HKO with Fake Out + Close Combat. It does like 80% max, which means Aero can Taunt + SR anyway.

"lol this post doesn't belong here. sorry." was referring to the tons of tl;dr calcs that i quickly moved to the CCAT thread, not to this poll tery.

I was too lazy. Besides, either way with a regular poll people would've posted substancial stuff anyways.

Either works, in our case.
