CC turn around grab?

In this clip, Hbox gets hit by a nair, forcing his character to turn around. He then crouch cancels to remove the lag and grabs mango. In what kind of situations will this work? Did mango miss his L cancel or forget to shine?

You can see Mango trying to shine after the nair so he probably just missed an L-cancel.

Nair is pretty weak knockback at low percents so crouch --> grab might be faster than nair --> shine

He didn't forget to shine. The shine comes out, but the crouch-cancel and weak nair turning him around meant that hbox could grab him before the shine hitbox came out. You can see it if you slow down the to frame-by-frame.
