DK doesn't beat Marth, but plenty of characters have a pretty solid advantage against him (and obviously being disadvantaged to MK will bring you down further in the tier list). MK, ICs, Dedede, and ROB all have an advantage on Marth.

@Stingers you forgot Zelda.

lol Vice I just want you to know that DK does NOT beat Marth
YES HE DOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol go get 3 stocked by Will lol.... i have seen minty get ***** by will in the MU and pierce... hell my DK does well against marth.

DK has better options in almost every situation and will never die unless he gets tipped unexpectedly.

ok ok i retract the above statements. IMO i still think DK wins just saying sry for being mean.

I've beaten Will in tournament before Vice, but that's not the point of the matter. They run even.

Vinnie at best It's 55/45 Marth's favor vs ic's at worst it's even. Marth vs Rob is even as well and at best Marth has a small advantage.

But he does indeed lose to both MK and D3 55/45, those are Marth's only REAL bad mu's everyone else he either destroys and he runs even with a few

Do you really think Marth beats ICs? :/ I'm not really disputing that, and some other people think that as well. I just think it's ICs' favor -.-... what does marth do? Retreating aerials, countering blizzard, ken comboing nana, and how he ***** popo so hard? I mean I GUESS I can possibly see it happening... also IMO he loses 4:6 to MK, but not much worse than that, contrary to popular belief (maybe slightly worse if you count counterpick stages like brinstar/rainbow).

i have seen minty get ***** by will
Even though I hate Minty, Minty usually beats Will in tourney and I do think it's Marth's favor.

Well when you space properly with Marth vs Ic's it's literally impossible for them to get a grab. Blizzard walls and ice block approaches aren't that great for them to make an attempt to close space vs him either. It's one of the reasons I don't play ic's anymore lmao

and Naturally counter picks would do Marth over vs Mk but banning brinstar would reduce that greatly. If mk is willing to cp to RC then he needs to know that Marth pretty much dominates the boat area of the stage, and also has the option to link into a death combo via the small wall being present the entire time. On the other transformations Marth simply just needs to stay under and or away from mk during those points. Based on the two character designs though I'd say it's 55/45. Marth pretty much does well on all the other stages, for stages where sharking is an available option Marth can spike him out of his up airs, at best spike flat out wins when spaced correctly and with a haphazzardly spaced dair they will trade which also = death for mk lol. Mk would have to be pretty dumb to want to cp halberd against Marth.
His best stages would be Frigate, and RC. Marth does pretty well on every stage, he can even lock off entire stage sections of frigate vs Mk so unless your spacing is top notch I wouldn't advise that too much either

ROB is pretty ayuss, G&W is where it's at!

@Kadaj I think you underestimate MK a lot -.- He has 5 jumps and can usually escape most of your Combos. I agree that the match-up isn't that bad but, MK definitely has a solid advantage on Rainbow Cruise. A MK will probably never be spiked (other than gr dair), because you have 1 double jump and he has five. A MK can basically jump to the ledge every time he's hit to avoid being combo'd by Marth. He can reset any situation in this match-up that way. Whether dair beats uair or not, I can't see MK being spiked like that ._.

I'll take my stance as 6:4 but I respect your opinion of 55:45. Glad to know there's other people that think the match-up is actually very viable for Marth though. Marth's really solid.

This I understand Vinnie, but in doing so he also gives up positional advantages. He definitely still has a clear advantage on RC. I was just stating some of the things that Marth has the option of doing on RC. Me and you both know that just avoiding sharking all together is one of the best ways to get around it lol but Marth is one of the few characters to have counter measures against sharking, dairing them while they try to up air from under say delfino is just a plus for us, it's not something that will drastically change the mu. Mk retreating after successive hits from Marth is something that is really common in the mu at high level play, in doing so they also lose stage control, eventually they run out of stage and revert to the ledge which Marth has arguably some of the best ledge traps in the game to keep opponents at bay for a pretty decent amount of time.

In short though I just wanted to shed a little light on what Marth is capable of doing vs MK

I agree with this entire post except for Marth having a viable option to counter sharking... I just don't think dair is very practical in this match-up to counter sharking. Maybe it is practical. I'll take your word on it I guess. I agree with the stage control bit, but MK resets the situation when he gets to the ledge. I agree that Marth has one of the best ledge traps in the game, but MK is... MK. He can just... go to the other ledge! Or abuse his jumps, etc. Although I can understand that although MK has these options to return from the ledge to the stage, Marth still does indeed gains control of the situation, enough to take advantage of it.

Another debate in this match-up is MK's edgeguarding on Marth. Can't MK drop down nair when Marth up Bs? Also, Orion told me this: When Marth recovers with up b, you can drop off the ledge and tornado. It either puts Marth in a position to get daired or up B stage spiked, or it forces Marth to recover above the ledge iirc, where he has his up b landing lag when he lands, which can be used to get him back offstage. It was some crazy theory-crafting that he came up with, but it seemed pretty practical because he has pulled it off on Minty many times.

I'm not sure with the tornado because Marth's up b beats out his nado.

But if timed properly mk can nair him, the timing is extremely strict and very often than not the risk definitely isnt worth the reward. With proper DI Marth will go straight up and over the ledge as well, and considering he just up b'd without the marth player knowing he'll probably have DI'd up in the event the nair connected, it is also risky in a sense that if you mistime it your pretty much dead once past 40ish and they can trade as well so at higher percents your a lot more prone to dying from a stage spike.

Marth can also mess around with his stalling tatics to make it even harder to do.

Ahh I see. I mean, MK can just hold up so he doesn't get stage spiked, no? Also, can MK up b stage spike Marth's recovery? I know G&W can.

you can ledgetech walljump MK's tornado if he tries to do it when you're recovering and use invincibility frames to hit him with basically any aerial you want.
