Hi there,

Im new here so not sure if this is the right place to stick this question but I was hoping someone could give me an idea of why my game is extremely laggy.

Im on PJ64 and ive tried most things to get it to run smooth (high priority, closing background apps and processes, disabling aero, reducing res.) but its so laggy. Im talking offline 1 v 1 here, its almost unplayable.

Im playing on my laptop which is an Acer Aspire 5349, Intel Celeron B800, 1.5 GHZ. 6GB RAM with Windows 7.

Is my laptop just not powerful enough? or is there something elso going on?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Back in '07, I was able to run pj64k and a recording program without any lag on a laptop from '04 with inferior specs to yours, so I'm certain your computer can handle pj64k. So, it's definitely something fixable.

I haven't used pj64 in ages, but have you tried going into settings -> advanced and changing "CPU core style" from "interpreter" to "recompiler?"

the cpu is already on recompiler :(

Any other suggestions? the FPS stays at 60 while there's nothing going on, like if its paused or both players are standing still, but if either player tries to do any sort of action the FPS drops to about 20 and i get alotta lag

Try playing on Dream Land. For some reason I think some people can't play on Hyrule without lagging.

I thought it only happened to battlecow and King Funk? :troll:

Seriously though, someone in Europe says that he can't play on Dreamland because it's too bright for his eyes. Then he camps the **** tent the whole match.

Oh and I know someone with a kinda recent laptop who can't play without lag offline. I don't know how that's even possible, since any 5-6 year old computer can handle it. Have you tried various graphic plugins as suggested earlier?

Well, I don't know anything about windows 7, and I feel like the problem is somehow related to the fact you're running 7. I dunno how badly you wanna play smash on your laptop, but one way you could probably get it to work is to create an XP partition on your hard drive and use that exclusively for playing smash or something.

My pentium 3 950hz computer running on windows XP could run 1v1 smash on high priority at 60fps, but soon as it was 3 players it was 45 fps or lower lol. it was at the lowest res 320x240.

I remember I had internet lag back then too. 55 fps or lower most of the time on GOOD connection.

Thanks for the replies guys,

Ive managed to get my offline game pretty much lag free when playing 1 v 1 now by changing the graphics plugin.

however im eager to play online now but im unable to due to my old friend mr lag popping his head up again.
When im online my ping is super high, like 280 or something and when i play matches there's like a 20 frame delay which is impossible to play with

My internet is usually pretty fast so not sure what the problem is, on speedtest.net I got Ping - 48ms, Download speed - 6.46 mbps, Upload speed - 0.66 mbps

Thanks and im grateful for any help you can give me

Have you checked the usual stuff? ie that you're not using any other internet programs (downloads, browser, updates, etc) and that nobody else uses your internet at the same time (aka sister lag).

I don't think that laptop of yours would be any good for Porject64k SSB, Celeron processors (no matter clock speed) are just really awful when it comes to handling 3D graphics. It will do the job for most things except gaming.

^^^which mean they can't do any jobs.

Alos, I used to have a terrible laptop but it could still run smash 64, was a plugin error it seemed originally for me.
