Can we still expect Alternate Costume Characters?

Considering that Sakurai consider the costumes shown as alternate COLORS, it's quite possible. However, "Daisy" was seen in the Spectator Mode update, so we don't know for sure. Considering the time and money put into the game, it'd be nice to have characters as alt since many characters could be clones.

For example:

Lucas -> Kumatora and Claus

These would be real alt. costumes instead of what we've seen.

probably not. Making entirely different character models like that takes time, so you might as well put them on the roster.

your examples don't work all that well in practice, not as Alts anyway. Most models are modeled whole, not in parts. If your changes are more severe than "Change color X to COlor Z" it probably needs a new model. Both Kuma and Claus would be clones by your example...though I would think the Kuma model would need more editing, since i'm of the understanding that she's a girl.

He's in the Color Changes update. Besides, that's all Dark Link pretty much is design wise.

lukintosh: one would be out of luck. Alts more than pallete swaps might as well take a roster slot. I'm pretty sure alts like the OP example won't happen. You could have Lucas posing as them, but full blown alts would take as much time as clones to develop. and that's assuming they have the exact same moveset

See that's too much for a simple color change. They have only ever changed colors and not the actual shape, with the exception of simple headgear for Pikachu, Pichu and Jigglypuff. So I have never understood why people expect there to be 'alternate costumes', like Dr. Mario for Mario, and even more ridiculous, Dark Samus as Samus. The whole concept was pretty much deconfirmed with the Fusion Suit Samus color change. It has the Fusion Suit colors, but it's still shaped like the Varia Suit.

Actually the "Dixie costume" has been confirmed to be just Diddy wearing a pink shirt and hat. Probably just meant to be a vague reference to Dixie, like Mario's Wario costume and Link's old Dark Tunic.

That's the trophy update.... Anyways, I think it sounds a little far-fetched to think they have alt. costumes. I think they've done good with just the little character changes. Like peach to daisy and Dark Link. Just sounds weird to think that they'd add 2 more colors and still have a costume set. It's supposed to be simple. Who knows.

Yeah, thats from the Fall Conference trailer, the section featuring the trophies to be exact. In fact, if you look closely you can tell that the Dixie trophy is less detailed than Diddy.

Slightly off topic, that reminds me...I've always wondered why there was a Dixie trophy in Melee but no Diddy?

Most likely not. There might be color changes reflecting other characters (Wario-Mario is still in (WTF)). I think Ike has a Sigurd-esque color change, Diddy has a feminine pink scheme (reflecting Dixie), Fox has a Wolf scheme, Sonic has Shadow and Manic (a cookie for all of you who know Manic), and there were several others in the color change update.

I don't think there will be alternate costums, just colors. I predict a Ness color scheme for Lucas though.

Roy: Sword Beam attack or explosive sword
Ness: PK Flash or Bat attack
Dr.Mario: Pill rush or attacks with vitamins
Pichu (as Pokeball): Pichu bros. come (like Lati@s) and use Thunder. Then they faint.

Some unlikely axed characters:
Mewtwo: Shadow Ball
Jigglypuff: Sing
Falco:Arwing strike
Mr.Game and Watch: A whole army of them come

i dont think they will change actual acessories with exeprion of pkmon (then they add bows and hats and glasses) but dont think they will add a diff hat or sometihng to link... but if they put olimar i want him as a louie colour scheme dont change his face or nothing but make the suit and light/wistle blue that would be awsome
