From what I've seen from the impressions of the competitive side, the opinion is split.
But what about the less competitive side?
How does the game look for you guys?

Zamus has proven to be amazing and the game looks gorgeous. So hyped. Gonna buy both versions and maybe all the amiibos for collective purposes.

Well, I'm a bit on the middle ground, as I know and play Smash competitively, but I've never been to a tournament. So you could call be a hyper-casual, or a pseudo-competitive.

With that said, I'm excited. It looks fun to play, and Sakurai seems to be taking good aspects from Melee and Brawl to make a new, unique game. For instance, gameplay is a tad bit faster, and combos are easier to follow up on (going off of Brawl). Isn't the reason ZeRo won the Invitational was just because he knew about the SD rule? If he was in a reg. match, he would have been forced to confront HBox, and he would have lost. Get that, Zamus losing to Kirby.

I feel like I'm in the same boat, I've played smash since the beginning, but I'm not a tourney guy. I love each game for its own unique qualities and this new one seems to right up my alley.

As long as Sakurai doesn't horribly nerf Samus, I'm happy that one of my two favorite characters is at least believed to be quite good right now. While I still played a ton of Samus in Brawl, she just didn't feel quite as good as Melee. I'm hoping customizable moves will let me turn off the Gale Boomerang for Link though as that was one of his changes that made me like playing him less.

As for comments on the overall game, I didn't like tripping randomly, so I'm glad that's gone. However, I also preferred Melee's faster paced game, and while it looks faster than Brawl, it doesn't look a ton faster. I'll have a better opinion of the flow of battle once I try it today, though.

Im liking the roster and custom movesets. I was hoping they changed smash balls for a different final smash system cause I dont like to play chase the ball. Being a fan of smash since 64 i find this one a bit slow for my tastes. For a fun fact me and my friends had brawl ffs game nights and one day I told them about PM, we tested it for fun and we switched almost instantly lol

Have played since 6 years old on the N64.

I've liked all the smashes. From what I've seen this one will be no different for me. I'm going to play it for a long time.

I haven't gotten a chance to play it. I always considered myself a fairly competent player but I never truly played competitive, and it sounds like I know nothing about competitive play. Honestly, I think it looks fine... except the roster is a bit lacking so far.

Just from going and playing the demo today, I think a lot of people who are purely in the casual demographic will be more than pleased. The game looks visually brilliant, the stages are neat, and I'm sure there will be cool content to unlock and explore as usual.

I've been reading a lot of disdain from the casual players as well for the floaty nature of Brawl returning and the extreme lag on landings. Seems a lot might have to change for this game to appeal to either side, I wonder if Sakurai is frustrated. :glare: No doubt he's seen opinions from both sides by now.

anything is fine for casuals considering they love brawl.
We loved Brawl because it is a good game, not because we accept anything. This attitude of yours is the exact reason some people outside of the competitive scene loathe competitive players. It is also the reason I have no plans of playing Sm4sh competitively, I just don't want to deal with people bashing other games I like in the franchises (including Sm4sh, which I will most likely adore).

I didn't play the game yet, but if it is floaty as Brawl, then fine for me. It doesn't bother me in the slightest and I am just happy tripping is history.

It's funny because I consider myself competitive and I really enjoyed the demo. Granted I only got two rounds of it, I really enjoyed it. It's simple if you don't like it don't play it. No sense saying it's ruined because to someone else it might not be. Personally I am excited to relearn this games style much like I did with Brawl and with Melee. I think that's a direction we should take this in. Learning new styles.

Game looks fantastic thus far. Both versions look very polished visually, the characters look great, the stages are diverse and look amazing so far. I think the thing that has me the most hooked at this point though is Smash Run. So much customization, so much representation from all of the Nintendo universe. There has got to be like 50+ enemies discovered and people just keep finding them. I have played every Smash since receiving Smash 64 at 8 years old and have loved all of them. This one has me more excited than any of the past games and that makes me thrilled beyond belief.

WOOP WOOP
CALLING ALL HYPER-CASUALS.
o.o

As a Brawl Tink main, I'm almost disappointed that his moveset looks exactly the same.
Dang.
I haven't really paid attention; was there any move staling in Sm4sh?

It definately feels like a step in the right direction.

project m taught me that you can have a competative game and still keep it enjoyable for casual players, so i wish that sakurai would see it that way too, but i dont hold out hope for it, and i'm still extremely happy for what smash 4 is already.

and honestly, new characters mean more to me than advanced technics, so i'm going to be playing smash 4 full time and likely wont be going back to project m

I'm very excited and hyped to play. Can't wait to spend a ton of hours on the game. I personally love what I am seeing so far, but I have noticed that many others seem to think that it will be "Brawl 2.0" and a "bad game." As a "hyper-casual/pseudo competitive" player, I really do hope the game will be enjoyable to others as well.

On another note...
I'm a bit sad to see Pikachu get nerfed... still going to main the little guy though. However, I am mighty glad to see that Lucario, Yoshi, and Bowser got buffed! The newcomers look awesome as well, especially Palutena!

Coming from someone who plays competitive and casual, depending on who i'm playing with, I really enjoyed the game.
There's some project m tournies in a town near me and after playing with them, Sm4sh seems to be able to play both ways as well. There's actually some combos, and more room for punishing compared to brawl. They took things from both games and mixed it and I loved it. It's definitely a game of it's own i'm excited to spend tons of hours on like the other installments.

I'm excited. I didn't feel like waiting 5 hours at Best Buy to play it, but the game looks good. It's a good step up from Brawl, as even as a casual, I hated random tripping. Also, there are stages we turned off, such as the up scrolling Donkey Kong one, and I'm glad that stages like it will have a FD form.

If you enjoy a game with tripping you would pretty much enjoy anything i honestly don't care about most casual players opinions.

Umm... wow, dude. Merely enjoying Brawl shouldn't put me, or anyone else, on the same level as someone who likes Sonic 06 or Superman 64. All of the SSB games are great games in general. Just because Brawl wasn't competitive enough doesn't mean it was objectively crap through-and-through, and just because some of us enjoy it doesn't mean we accept anything and everything that comes our way.

Outside of content and music brawl is on that level. All the groundwork from n64/melee was throw anyway for balloon fighter gameplay. Sakurai said himself brawl was made for casuals only pretty much.

You sure you're not being a little extreme? Sure, Brawl had its flaws, but at its core it was an acceptable game. I don't consider it an abomination simply because it had certain anti-competitive features. Doing so is tantamount to saying that Disneyland is an abomination because it didn't have that Horned King ride you always wanted (somewhat bad analogy, I know, but I hope it gets the point across)

You are in a thread called Calling all casuals. Why are you even here? To insult people who actually like having fun and trying different things? Seems highly logical.

I get the idea of this thread, but again, all this is going to do is create a flamewar, which is what we're trying to avoid.

I would advise against making threads of this nature.
