We're now heading into our second tournament at UL, so I want to make this tournament bigger attendance wise. I'm expecting more people from the engineering department at UL to show up this time. I scheduled this tournament a bit later than the expected time for this series to get hype on the campus (UL starts up like the 11th of January).

Dates/Schedule
January 22, 2011

3:30pm - Sign Ups / Warm Ups
5:00pm - Brawl Singles Begin
5:30pm - Melee Singles Begin

Fees
$4 Venue Fee
$5 Entry Fee
NO REFUNDS
60/30/10 Pot Split <-- If there's 24-
55/30/10/5 Pot Split <-- If there's 24+

Venue Info

131 Rex Street
Madison Hall Room 142A
Lafayette, LA 70503-2007

Here's the deal with parking near the venue. I've been told that parking is free everywhere on the campus on Saturday. The best place to park is on Rex Street(look it up). The building in front of a model of multiple red I-beams is the place where the tournament is going to be. There's parking in front of Madison Hall(the place where the tournament is) since the gate will be open. Make sure to exit out of the open gate cause the other gate gets jammed sometimes.

Please do not mess up this room. The people at IEEE were kind enough to let us use the room. If you do, I'll superkick you out of the room. Money will be given out for a prize as opposed to store credit. There will be sodas sold there for 50 cents per can. We can also see about getting pizza as well. I know that there's a Zeus, Taco Bell, and McDonalds nearby.

If you need help in finding the room, txt Curlz.
Also, there's a Subway down St. Mary Street.

General Info:

GENERAL

-No drugs, alcohol, or smoking inside the building.
-No fighting.
-Do not sit on the pool table.
-Please throw away your trash.
-Please listen and help out the Tournament Organizers and Staff by listening and working with them.
-As organizer, I reserve the right to modify or change rules in order to accommodate the tournament's needs. I will notify players accordingly should a change be made on the day of the tournament.
-Similarly, as an organizer, I want this to be the best tournament possible. If you think something could be better, tell me how. We'll go from there.
-All tournaments will be a double-elimination bracket seeded to the best of my knowledge.
-Chibo's Video Rule, you cannot refuse to be recorded if you pay money to enter an event, is in effect.
--MikeHAZE's Disruption Rule, no yelling or making abrupt noises at your opponent, is in effect.

EQUIPMENT INFORMATION

-If you want this to run smoothly and quickly we will need as many setups as possible so please bring whatever you can for any event.
-All TVs and Game Systems that are donated for this event will be taken complete care of by the staff. We are not liable for any broken or malfunctioning TV or Game System, however, we will make sure nothing happens to your equipment.
-All TVs and Game Systems will be used for tournament play.
-If you are entered in a tournament and you are playing on a TV without being called for a tournament match, you will be asked to stop whatever you are doing and to get off the TV. If you refuse, you will be DQ'd from the tournament with NO REFUND.
-If you are not entered in a tournament and you are playing on a TV, you will be asked to stop whatever you are doing and to get off the TV. If you refuse you will be booted from the venue.

Rules:

BRAWL

-Double Elimination
-3 stock; 7:00 Singles
-Bowser/Ganon/Dedede/Kirbyciding- The results of this happening is whatever the game says. Even if the Bowser/Ganon/DeDeDe/Kirby dies first. If the game reports sudden death, please refer to sudden death procedures (see below.)
-Sudden Death will not be played out. In the event of a sudden death the winner is determined by stock, then percentage. If the sudden death was initiated by a suicide KO- the players will have a 1 stock, 3 minute timer game to determine the winner. If a 2nd sudden death is reached and it is also a tie, then another 1 stock, 3 minute timer game will be played. If this game ends in tie via suicide kill, the player that did the most damage overall will win the set. Basically a "triple overtime" is the limit.
-Team attack on
-No items
-Ledge Grab Limit is 40 --> MK only
-Best 2/3, Winner's, Loser's, and Grand Finals are 3/5
-Bring your own controller
-Players may not intentionally manipulate a teammate’s controller while a Game is in progress.
-Advanced slob picks
-Stage striking for first pick (players may agree on a stage or random)
-Stage bans: each player may ban one stage after stage striking occurs
-Modified Dave's Stupid Rule: a player/ team may not pick a stage that he won on previously in the set
-We'll call your match at least 3 times. If you haven't show within 5, maybe 10 minutes, you lose.
-No infinites past 300%.
-Meta Knight's Infinite Dimensional Cape and Extended Dimensional Cape are banned.
-Meta Knight's Street Sharking glitch is banned.
-Marth's Infinite on Lucas and Ness is banned.
-King Dedede’s Grab Infinites against Bowser, Donkey Kong, Luigi, Samus, and Mario are banned.
-Chibo's Video Rule, you cannot refuse to be recorded if you pay money to enter an event, is in effect.
--MikeHAZE's Disruption Rule, no yelling or making abrupt noises at your opponent, is in effect.

STAGE STRIKING:

We will use STAGE STRIKING to start the set. NOT RANDOM (unless both players agree). Basically, Player A chooses one stage from the Starter list that he doesn't want to play. Player B picks a stage he doesn't want from the remaining list. Players A & B alternate until only one stage is left. This is the stage for the first match.

ADVANCED SLOB PICKS

Game 1 is played by Stage Striking to pick a stage and then both players/teams pick their characters simultaneously.

When Game 1 is finished then starts Game 2 and the counterpick system. The winner of Game 1 bans a stage then the loser of Game 1 picks the next stage for Game 2. The winner of Game 1 then picks his/her character and then the loser of Game 1 picks his/her character. Game 2 then begins.

The process for Game 3 is the same if the match gets to it.

If this date stays, I won't be able to make it. I have Sadie Hawkins and I don't think my date will be fine with me ditching her for a Brawl tournament (again. lol @ MLG and Homecoming)

dont you guys have like a 2 day tourney the month after this?

Come to Ragnarocks Resist 2 in mobile :p
It's actually a fundraiser for the organization that's letting us use the room. NOM's the week after, so it's either the first week in Feburary or it'll have to be that date. I'm gonna have to check next semester if they'll actually advertise around UL for me.

Help hype it up Matt. Idk how many people we're expecting though. I think Ken has talked to some of the Melee players.

Going to this tournament may be a possibility for me, assuming of course that players from well outside Lafayette are welcome. Here's hoping that my schedule allows for it, as well.

^^Yeah this isn't a local. I'd love to see some OoT players coming considering that there's an OoS tournament the same day/weekend.

You know what, I'm coming to this instead of the Alabama tourney.

And I might play Melee, and I could somehow randomly have my own car by this time. :glasses:

I'm sure I could round up the Lafayette Melee crew to produce. It's been sometime since a melee tournament has been in Lafayette. I could get at least 4 people including myself to attend. I also have no problem bringing a setup, seeing that I live about 200 feet from the venue :p.

title says the date is 1/22, info says 1/23...which is it?
i'm off sunday
****. It's the 22nd.

We could use some TV, Wii, Brawl, and power strip setups.

In fact, I mentioned in the fliers that the first 10 that bring a COMPLETE SETUP(including a power strip) get their venue fee waived.

Dangit, I have work this day, cuz I'm a noob and I forgot to ask off...

Oh well, missing one whole weekend and then the next Saturday wouldn't make me look good anyways.

See you guys at Gaming Lounge and FFF!

TV, check. Wii, check. Brawl, check. Power strips, quadruple check. Echo and I will bring all we can.

Anyone here capable of fixing Gamecube controllers? I've got several that refuse to work.
