But really, it's time for taunts to take over for transformations.

I think you misunderstood. My point is you don't have to give everyone an extra attack to balance it out because those characters (Shiek in Melee notwithstanding) aren't very good anyway, one extra move for them will only improve the game.
I'm seeing your point completely. The solution isn't "give Zelda another move because maybe it'll be better and improve her game," it's "make Zelda's already existing moves better to improve her game."

You can replace one move with another one, which can include down B. But if you replace down B, you get rid of Sheik. You don't move her over to a taunt button.

Ideally yes, you're right. Transformation mid-match should be a more viable option, in which case I would have no problem with it being mapped on an attack button. In Smash's current state, however, a taunt button would be the ideal place for a transformation button because it really isn't an option. The extra special attack could make Zelda in particular a more fleshed out character. Therefore, they should fix it like you suggested, or give them a move that's actually useful.
If it isn't an option, either remove it or make it an option. Don't shove it onto a button it has no right being on. Zelda doesn't have a problem "not being fleshed out." She has a zoning tool/projectile, a recovery, a reflector, and very strong kill potential. She also has an alternate character with combo potential. She is a very fleshed out character already, her existing moveset just needs to be buffed, not added to.

No. Zelda only has one useful move: Down B. She isn't very well fleshed out in the slightest.

Wrong. I never implied that they should give her a different Down B as a buff. They need to give her a different Down B because her current special is a boring, meaningless no-skill. If you're going into the match starting as Zelda you have literally no reason to ever use that move. It's only use is if you change your mind and no longer want to use that character. It's unintuitive and a complete joke.

Now you're just being combative. In an ideal scenario the transformation would either be removed or implemented correctly. However, to say that the transformation being mapped to taunt button is completely out of the question is closed-minded and ridiculous. Samus' transformation is mapped to the taunt buttons, after all. If Zelda had an extra special she would be MORE fleshed out, you can't deny that. At the moment she's a terribly idealized character. "She has a recovery", lol. So fleshed out.

Edit: didn't look like my other post went through. Double post.

Sonic is way more bland and linear as a character than Zelda, and he has a full array of specials. Zelda's problems as a character do not stem from a lack of options, and throwing another move her way won't make her any better.

Instead of seeing Zelda and Sheik as two separate characters look at them as one character with two move sets. Now you see that it is a lot of moves to add a down b to those characters. Idk that just seems a tad unbalanced. Thats probably why it takes a crap ton to even change from Samus to Zero Suit Samus. And even then you cant change back.

It would have been interesting if Young Link's taunt in Melee would restore some of his health. I mean, the milk item restores HP, and I'm going to bet that the famous Lon Lon Ranch milk is better than your average store-bought.
But who wants to waste time drinking milk when you could be setting up bombs on the stage amirite

I think this would be a good idea. But just to make sure there isn't no confusion, I'd say do this:

"Tap the Taunt button to taunt! But! Hold down the Taunt button and Press B to execute X special ability!"

I'd be okay with that. Ganondorf could pull out and use his sword, Kirby could taunt without losing his costume, PKMN Trainer could switch Pokemon out better, Samus could choose if her Final Smash causes her to transform or not and so on. It wouldn't be so game breaking I don't think. But balance reasons could be the reason why Nintendo wouldn't do it. But if I were in charge, I'd try it out and see how it feels.

They don't do this because taunts are supposed to be just a fun thing to do that makes fun of the opponent. They aren't supposed to actually have in-game effects.
Cough*Kirby*Cough

How has no one mentioned Kirby at this point?

I really like this idea, more so in the case of Zelda/Sheik than pokemon. The pokemon still change when you use a stock, and with the trainer, I feel like they are supposed to be used as a team.

Zelda and Sheik on the other hand... You can just use one or the other.
