Buffering Issues

I've been running into this problem where every time I buffer a special move (doesn't matter which direction) it always buffers a down special. I've SD'd several times trying to recover when I use a side or up special to recover and it always buffer the down special and I end up losing the stock. I use the USB GC controller and I've only recently been running into this issue. I say which controller I'm using because when I try to replicate this phenomenon using my Switch Pro Controller I can never replicate it. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Or perhaps is there something wrong with my GC controller.

The buffering system in this game is really janky so if you try to buffer a special.....yeah chances are you'll end up SD'ing. It's not your fault, it's a problem they really need to fix.
