A few thoughts on this whole thing: It looks like the Ice Climbers are deconfirmed... in their traditional form on the 3DS. After almost a year, it takes this long to have something in English that's so specific to their 3DS dilemma. Removing all those joints and going zero gravity is much more specific than "modifications." And isn't that translation just a more accurate version of this one?
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/featu...ahiro-sakurai-s-super-smash-bros-diaries.aspx. See "Where is [insert character here]?" This doesn't seem like the "
Sakurai confirms that the Ice Climbers will not be DLC" story given a second glance. It's notable how the wording in the new Source Gaming version is placed. If I'm not mistaken, it looks as if the priority and Melee vet portions are split off. Saying, "this part talks about the ill-fated attempts to get ICies running properly on both versions, while this paragraph states why certain characters were placed as a lower priority like Lucas and such as well as the difficulty of porting Melee vets not in Brawl like Mewtwo who is a completely unique character." I find it silly for someone to see this as there official deconfirmation considering A: Think About the Video Games, vol. 461-464,
October 2014, and B: There are other less traditional solutions to revamp them at least just this once for Smash 4 that a good amount of Ice Climbers fans would be willing to accept as alternatives.
So what does this mean for us as Ice Climbers supporters? Simple. We discuss the alternatives. I'm actually so thankful that we're given more clarity during a time full of speculation. Essentially, this is more of a reason to cross "Traditional Ice Climbers on both versions" off of our lists. I think that's something special about us in general. With the situation ICies are in, it causes our expectations to be very flexible, where we don't say, "Oh, it's supposed to be this way and it has to be just like this and that's that!" We have other possibilities ranging from giving them new mechanics as close to their duo as possible, which probably Sakurai tried, to Wii U exclusivity which would be quite the push and that's an under-exaggeration if I ever saw one, or a solo Ice Climber which I'd find a not perfect but okay last resort that holds us over for Smash 5 when they're more likely to be fully in their traditional roots. This is not a time for sorrow. This is a time to regroup, re-evaluate, and re-analyze. Sure, I'm a very patient person. Sometimes too patient. If I waited 7 years for Mewtwo, I can certainly wait 10 years for Ice Climbers if they didn't return. I personally am trying to take an approach where I ask for the Ice Climbers and spend that waiting time on what I enjoy instead of obsessing over my wants before receiving them. I suggest you all do the same. Anything to keep this era fun. This is not over.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you so much, @
PushDustIn
for your contribution. I believe you've really helped me and the rest of us out a lot. You and the rest of Source Gaming do so much for the Smash community as a whole, and we would never be the same without you. It's been a pleasure. Keep up the good work, guys!
