So I've been thinking. Ness has some great options that are super ****ing strong for punishing Rests or broken shields. PK Flash, tipper bat, PK Thunder, or even back throw if you're a boring person.

But, what can Ness do to break a shield? Tell me below and share your methods with the world! From what I've gathered already, his bat and dsmash deal fair shield damage, and dtilt is good for pressure.

Get their shield low enough after PK Fire and then do a blatant PKT2 towards them, they'll start shielding and their shield will break.

I honestly don't try for shield breaks too often. IMO, you shouldn't actively pursue one with any character (well, maybe DK), but it's nice to have them when you get them.

Ness actually only has 1 move that's specifically programmed to do significant shield damage, and that's PK Flash... but we all know how impractical that is. Bat and PKT2 do nice shield damage simply as a result of their power. I highly recommend against using dtilt as the shield stun is so short that you can get punished for it on block.

Most smart opponents will just spot dodge or take the hit if they know their shield is low, so I wouldn't go recklessly shooting out PKT2s unless they were really scared.

Ness doesn't have really effective ways of breaking shields. PKT2 does a tremendous amount of shield damage though. If you can get their shield low enough you can use pkt2 and they won't be able to shield it without breaking their shield. In that situation though they can just jump over pkt2, so it isn't so useful.

Come on guys, we got Mr. Saturn on our side

Shield breaking isn't really a thing you pursue most of the time... But from my experiences, some well spaced aerials can apply some decent shield pressure without putting Ness in much danger. PKT2 is also a thing, as you know already.
