One day I was playing brawl against a fellow clan member. He's really good and I usually can only beat him using MK (my main) One day I was facing him and was training tons before hand. I face his marth with my secondary olimar. I usually get killed by his marth when I use olimar. I ended up 2 stocking his marth. I was just doing amazing, i was 3 stocking and 2 stocking continuously. I was doing amazing only losing 1 match with Olimar (my secondary)I go offline and face some lv9's. I usually 2 stock them, instead I 3 stock them every match I played about 20 of them that day. I was really great that day.

The next day I go on brawl again and find myself sucking more than ever! I face my friends fox. I usually always beat his fox with olimar and Mk. He 2 stocks my olimar and beats my MK half the time. WTF! I face a CPU and cant beat a lv9! What happened! The next day I do even worse, I have a hard time beating lv7's. I don't get it! How can I go from great to crap in a day!

Maybe because you're playing wi-fi with a Wiimote/Nunchuk.

Play Melee.

stop facing CPU's is all i can say they play extremely different compared to human players. 9s are next to inhuman as well, they can perfect shield next everything, you can't use mindgames on them, theycan be pretty predictable.

all you have to do is play wifi as much as possible because facing a human player prepares you for tournaments and it can greatly improve your gameplay, after you can 2 stock a CPU theres no point in facing them as they can't teach you anything.

I improve my game by reading up on character abilities and learning the meta game then i actually test all the tactics and strategies i read up on, then i see which ones i can utilize in a match-up based on my chances.

i also have started switching up my playstyle mid match... i found that thats how to beat you as you have one playstyle and you use the same tactics over and over again. Now i play 3 different ways and im not telling you cause i can't let you have an edge on me during our fights.

It just happens sometimes... some days you'll play like crap. Wait a few days until you feel like playing again, and you'll do better

and nice name, lolol

Sometimes when you over play there is a part in your mind which loses interest. Even if your not consciously bored your mind in a way loses interest.. Like ook said if you wait for a while until you’re really in the mood you will have much more focus and perform much better. When you practice in something your mind takes it all in like data and then it goes over it again and again in your head until its naturally memorized. Sometimes there is so much information that it cannot do both things at the same time. It can either take in data or go over it. Kind of like a video tape, you cannot record something and play it at the same time.

When you played the next day your mind was still in the second phase (going over what you did the day before) so it could not focus as much on the "data" that was in front of you. If you have ever tried to do something extremely difficult such as learn a piano song or memorize flash cards and no matter how much you practiced you couldn't get it right but the next day you did with ease, this is an example. While you were sleeping your sub conscious mind was replaying the "data" over and over in your head so the next day you had it naturally memorized.

It also just depends on your mood. If your focused on other things, your attention is less focused on brawl and consequently you do not perform as well. Sometimes just being in a great mood helps you play better. If your tired and lazy you wont perform as well. But if your hyped and pumped your adrenaline gets running and your focused is increased.

All in all, the best thing to do is wait.

Thanks Zen! So how long should I wait in between brawl sessions so my mind can "record" when I'm playing?

Not a Melee Vs. Brawl topic at all. You might as well stop there.

Thats up to you ;]
It depends really. Usually a day or two usually does it but just a couple of hours could make a difference.

The guides really helped me DeDeDe. They r really good, and i think they will boost my game. I now know to performthe best I need to balance my game time, think positive, practice advanced techniques, and change my style of play during the match instead of only having 1 style of play.

Well I had a big speech prepared but everything you need to know has already been covered here.

Main thing once you're in your game and focused is to always be conscious of reactions. This means your reactions to your opponent's techniques, and your opponent's reactions to your techniques. If you notice that your opponent is walking up to you and shielding whenever you fail to tech something, it means that they know you're going to get up with an attack, which means you're doing that too much. If you find yourself rolling or spot-dodging when your opponent so much as short-hops, it means they are trying to mind-game you; instead, you should attack them in that case.

Always paying attention to your opponent's habits and taking advantage of them is the best way to win a match. It's hard to do unless you can really concentrate and train your mind to do it. Obviously this means that you can't form habits yourself, because you don't want to be punished, so you have to be unpredictable. You don't have to play a perfect game as long as you can keep your opponent guessing. Missing some combos or failing to connect a finishing blow is fine as long as you don't try the same combo or finishing blow again later.
