So...since we're just waiting here, I thought we could discuss the fundamentals of lag. Sounds fun, right?

What causes some players to lag a lot and others not to? Surely not that many people have bad internet. Is it distance? But you live across the country, and we don't lag. Or maybe it has something to do with their internet security settings?

Edit: I was trying to practice my "illusion to edgegrab" thing but I didn't stand in the right spot.

Some people just have bad internet, but distance is also a factor.
It's mostly internet usage. I'll always get lag if someone else is downloading or streaming something on my connection. Then my lag makes everyone else in the (basic brawl) room lag, too.

edit; The netcode for Brawl already sucks, though. So there's already some lag from the get-go.

Luckily I'm the only person in my house who constantly uses the internet. But my internet also sucks (but really good for where I live) so that might also play a factor in lag.
I remember reading somewhere that Brawl didn't have online play planned and they announced it anyway, so it was rushed. Hopefully since Smash 4 has planned online and Nintendo Network things will be better. But it is Nintendo...and online...
