What do you think? Do you think this could work?

I think it would be a great idea, Especially if you could link the two versions together.

Please Discuss.

its not going to happen, it would be bad for nintendo, by making it a wii exclusive, they make all the DS and cube owners want to purchase a wii, sorry man

It won't happen. Well atleast BRAWL won't happen on DS. Maybe another Smash Game, but it would have to be MAJOR TWEAKED.

Brawl, nope. A Smash Bros game... it's only a matter of time, if you ask me. There's simply no bigger market in the world of videogames than the DS, and SSB is always a bestseller - which, in the DS, might very well mean an obscene amount of money enterig Nintendo's coffers. And obscene amounts of money tend to be rather good motivation for companies.

I think due to the button constraints, it would either be to hard to play or so limited that it would not be any fun.

Bwuh? Just how many buttons do you use for Smash Bros? A, B, Jump and Shield are pretty much the only necessities. The DS has six buttons. I'd say it could very well be enough. The only limitation would be that lack of joystick implies lack of tilts.

Hmmm... I don't know honestly. I'm sure Nintendo could come up with a Smash Bros. game for the DS, but I'd have to wonder how the button layout would lend itself to a game like Smash... all the other fighters on the DS have been pretty lackluster from what I hear, and the last thing I want is for Smash to go like that.

Then again, I love my DS and having a game like Smash Bros. to play on a car or plane trip would be awesome.

So I guess I'd like the idea, I just don't know if Nintendo would consider it seriously enough to make it really good.

Smash Bros. on the DS would not work in any form, if you would want the same speed as on the consoles. Smash really relies on speed and really can't use any lag.

Look at Jump! Ultimate Stars. It sometimes suffered from (slightly) noticeable lags when four (CPU) players were on the field. Smash just can't use any lag at all.

Well since all the smash games of the series were on home consoles, I think the series will never make a game on DS. Although it would be a great idea...but not brawl. DS can't have such great graphics

It is possible. The graphics could be similar to mario kart ds, not quite up there with cube graphics, but still eye pleasing. As for control layot and how to do tilts, they can simply implement the lone wiimote setup that brawl itself will incorporate. Making it lagless is entirely up to the coding team, to figure a way to draw the correct amount of things on screen without straining the processing and memory of the cart itself.

Stating it just won't happen is delusional and a commend biased by one's opinion. It is quite possible to do, and it is only a matter of wheter nintendo thinks a watered down smash with less characters and stages would sell with the premise of being able to take it anywere with you, and playing in wifi.

Precisely. it would cater for the same kind of buyers that got mario kart. people with friends that already have ds's and the will to buy their own copies. This is a much bigger market that one would think. With just half the earnings of a pokemon game, it wold make the effort very worthwhile.

But, I know what you mean, Fabiano. Spending a buttload of money just to play a game multiplayer seems to be a lot... but that's business. Companies realize that people will buy their stuff for a "good" game, so it seems like Nintendo would try SSB for DS out.

People who think Smash on DS would work simply need to look at the facts.

So far Mario Kart DS, Super Mario 64 DS and many other 3D DS games showed us one thing, that the DS can handle 3D. If these games don't rely on a lot of actions. The DS however isn't strong enough to even handle a lot of events in Jump! Ultimate Stars. It starts to lag with the slightest amount of additional sprites. Figure how Smash would play. With the many particle effects it would lag like hell.

Simply put, Smash on the DS would NOT be fun to play. It really relies on the effects.

Smash DS would be awesome, and I'm sure it'll happen sooner or later. Even if the 3d graphics are worse than SSB64, which they might need to do, it'd still be worth it.
Or, even better, make it sprite-based. Jump Ultimate Stars' engine won't be the same as Smash DS, so I'm sure they could find a way around the lag, even if it means they have to limit the number of items on-screen or reduce the size of the stages. They could make it work, I'm sure.

No thanks. Bad controls, bad graphics in comparison to the Wii, and a way to milk the franchise by putting it on the DS, which is way less powerful than the Wii, would not be the way to go. There's not going to do it anyway.

Jump Ultimate Stars is Japan only, according to release data on Gamefaqs. Some of us don't spend tons of money importing and/or don't import because we can't read Japanese.

Smash would be cool on the DS, if it was done correctly, but I more want a pick-up play game - that Smash is - on the DS. Something that you can just mess around in, if you want, or you can play seriously. Mario Kart doesn't cut it for me, and I haven't heard of anything with good single and multiplayer (preferably Wifi along with local wireless) that'd really fit the bill. The DS doesn't have that must-own game. Mario Kart is cool, and all, but it's a racing game and is under the limitations (even if some are bent with stuff like battle mode). I know there's Metroid Prime Hunters, but I've read that other than Wifi, it's basically pointless. And the demo I played at a store was confusing, to say the least. Coulda sworn I always spawned in the same spot.

Unless someone can point me towards a DS game with depth, multiplayer, but is also pick-up and play. Not, pick up and train for a few dozen hours before doing serious multiplayer, like Pokemon. X-|

umm its a great idea but then again I dont see it workin or happening. First of all the ds has visual and graphical contrants (graphics are = or slightly above the n64) which isnt bad but if they wanted to make a remake of the n64 game they would putit on the virtual console. also i feelif a smash game is made for the ds it wont be nearly as good as brawl and will actually be quite average and its not a good idea to make an average game out of an outstanding franchise, not that they couldnt make it good but i say keep smash on the home console and keep it away from the handheld

Maybe they should wait until the next generation of Gameboy for this. Perhaps it will have better graphics and a controle scheme best made for Smash Bros.

I've always wanted a portable Smash Bros. game, of course.

They should remake Jump Ultimate Stars with Nintendo characters. JUS had a way bigger roster than Smash though. I think there were like 60 playable characters.

Nintendo doesnt need to do that. the DS is pretty popular by itself, it doesnt need a smash, smash is for console, is a console seller, melee was the only reason why many people got a cube, and is going to be the only reason why they will buy a wii, im included
