Note when Samus uses her Final Smash in the video "Tokyo vs Kyoto". Her attack doesn't even touch Mario but it still sends him flying. I'd hate to see how much the lag will affect 1-on-1 fights where rolling is a key factor for victory.

How long have you been playing Smash? Ever hear of hitboxes? No offense man, but until we get the game, we can't "assume" anything about latency in game. Now I don't doubt the fact that there will be some lag, but it is very possible all you saw was a hitbox issue.

Meh, for me in UK, fighting other people in Britain should be fine. I reckon even fighting people in US would be fine.

uhm no.. it's just that her ray is bigger than it looks, also I still doubt that actually is an online game (no names on the characters.. I doubt the only 4 people that can play the game online aren't friends!)..

I really hoped the vid would show us the wi fi menu in action, how to setup a game etc etc, but just some lame direct feed gameplay is so dull..

yea i think you will eventually be able to account for any any lag and compensate for it in time. Just like you can compensate for the lags for various characters attacks

Actually, no

I noticed that, and in fact it's just because Samus's beam enlarges right at the end of the Final Smash. If you look carefully, it actually touches Mario (or gets VERY VERY VERY near so to get his hitbox).
I assure you that he is actually touched and the distance between Mario and the laser is no more than two pixels...

I don\'t think that was an issue.

Mario jumps over the beam and stalls with his cape and up+B. It makes sense that the final pulse of energy that Samus fires has a bit more range than all the weak hits leading up to it.

The beam erupts a huge hitbox (by the look of it) to the end, this is not lag, the only time it lags is at the end with the "The Winner is" screen.
You're wrong, Brawl looks amazing online. Even if it only was with two teams.

And just to make sure you heard...
Yes. He DID touch her laser.

Look at the clock in the corner. Any skips in it happen AFTER the laser goes off and he touches it This does confirm that there is a little lag, however, as shortly after he touches the clock skips a beat.

Keep in mind it could be your computer that's slow, any video I look it seems laggy unless I'm watching it on youtube.

I'll have a look on youtube and see what it's like....

edit: I watched it on youtube and guess what? very little lag, not enough to annoy you or anything anyway. I saw mario use his cape and fall on the top of samus's beam and fly off.

You have to accept that there will always be some bit of lag. Online events can't compete with live events in that regard. What online allows though is to instantly expand the amount of players you can face from the luxury of your own location. The ability to travel to tournaments isn't always possible.

It really doesn't look that bad.....except are tokyo and kyoto very far apart? Japanese geography never really came up in school. :p

Hmm, small countrys will probably be able to play online all over.

Overall, I'd say each continent will have good to average online battles(< is trying to stay optomistic). But anything on a worldwide scale.....who knows?

They need to do a test where they go to the uk and try a battle between Uk and Japan and then show us the grisly truth.

Even though the lag will be present, this isn't the case. The last hitbox that causes the beam to expand has a massive knock back ratio, and is the source of the attacks KO potential. It just wishing that Sakurai would have used a better example by showing the results of continental play, but it would be impossible.

Does it matter than Japan's average bandwidth is about 20x better than ours?

That's because nearly everyone in Japan uses broadband. I believe only about half of the US population uses broadband. That brings down average bandwidth size for the country.

Japan's broadband tapestry consists of fiber-optic.
Laying fiber is 10x more expensive than copper.
But fiber carries hundreds to thousands more channels of data than copper. Of course Japan will have less latency than America.

Additionally, this probably isn't a hitbox issue since Mario jumped over the beam when Samus first cast her Final Smash.
