So i was thinking, why not include b+ with custom stages that are legal? U know like bringing back dream land 64 and other stages we all knew and loved. I'm no good with texture hacks but i bet someone could color them to make them seem like the real stages again. Just a thought but please discuss if you think b+ should include this and stages you would like to see again.

You know, I'm fairly sure that there's another thread for this. So we'll let them engage in a battle to the death to see which one survives.

Custom stages aren't really something that's being considered for Brawl+. Part of the reason is because of the difficulty distributing them and deciding which are fair. The blandness also has something to say for it.

Another major aspect is that we already have stages for pretty much everything we want, and have sufficient codes to also mould any stage to be how we want it to be. We'd love to see people creating said modifications for stages which would benefit from it (like Spear Pillar). We really don't need more stages though. Variety is nice, but unless a stage can fill a niche it's somewhat uneccessary.

true but instead of having say 20 viable stages why not 25 or even 30? there are plenty of types of stages that got left behind, like a platformed stage with huge area (aka dreamland64). i never said make a new list of stages that would make so many that it would make banning a counterpick pointless because of variety, i simple meant make 3-10 stages that are new or seen in the past so that there can be a bit more variety to counterpicking.

Even still Almas, I think you guys should just try it out and post video's. I'm curious to see how they actually turn out. It could be a kind of experiment.

There's nothing wrong with the idea. There's just the fact that it would require a lot of work by several people, which probably aren't you. I mean, it's nice to say "oh, this should happen", but it's not so easy when you're the one doing the work. If you can convince other people to try it out, more power to you. Just don't expect people to put in a lot of effort just because of arbitrary whims.

all it would be would be using the hacks for custom stage parts and then simply recreating the map with those. using textures could make it less ugly to look at is all anyone would need to do really, no1's asking them to say texture in the tree from DL64 in it

I would like to point out that the current Brawl+ codeset disables custom stages, and the main in-depth hackers atm are inactive.

That's also a valid point. Spunit is currently resolving computer issues, PW is taking an extended break. The only people who work mainly for the project at this point in time are myself and Paprika, and admittedly neither of us are amazingly talented coders. Fortunately there's only a couple of things we need, and between us we almost make up one real coder.

That said, I'm currently finishing up some work on allowing alternate costumes to be used as clones, as well as re-writing many of the standard codes used to be more processor-friendly, and after that I'll probably be trying to sort the public side of Brawl+ out more (increasing the amount of support I give on the forum, setting up a website etc.). I don't really foresee myself doing much coding; I generally feel out of my depth with a lot of newer stuff. I just rewrite stuff.

Alternate costume's huh? Do you mean something like wario normal and wario bike costume or merely color swaps?
I think he is talking about adjusting the moveset of a character via the specific costume rather then the character as a whole.

As of now we have all the ability to make characters like Roy and Dr. Mario except the only way to use them at the moment is to replace the existing character. If you could assign the changes to a specific costume then there actually becomes a reason to look into recreating characters.

I would love to see that become a possibility, so best of luck Almas on that.

Sounds pretty sweet. So could technically make Mewtwo as well? maybe pichu(not sure why, just for the hell of it i guess)?

A question about that. How would it affect Team matches if there's a Marth on a Red team (in case Roy is assigned to Red Marth)? If you do make it so that clones are assigned to colors, would an additional input (like L/R in the same method Zamus is selected from Samus) be necessary just so that a person could use Red Marth without using Roy?

Kain - Mewtwo could not be made, nor could a perfect Dr. Mario. The difference: Actual move animations and hitboxes cannot be changed yet. Marth and Roy were clones of each other with slight differences, and things like flipping sweetspots and adding fire effect aren't tremendously hard. However, giving Lucario (the closest to Mewtwo) moves like Disable and Mewtwo's throws and the like is impossible with the level of hacking we as a community currently have available.

Discussion concerning this idea (tournament viable custom stages) has been mentioned before, and I would ask that you direct your further conversation on the matter to the following thread to centralize things.

Well, I am one of a group of people currently in progress with project that aims to provide a tournament viable group of stages that can be easily included as a standard in tournaments. This project is exclusive to Brawl+, as the stages can be used effectively just as well in standard Brawl tournaments. Whether the Brawl+ community would like to integrate our project into theirs once it's released is up to them, but any encouragement or publicity is appreciated.

I would also note that while the current texture replacement code used in the codesets requires custom stages to be disabled, I think the new file replacement code doesn't. It shouldn't be an issue anymore.

It'll get released soon enough. If you have questions, ask on the custom stage discussion thread I linked to.
