Speaking of which, QUESTION:

What are the mechanics on Samus' bombs? Are they no longer proxy? I dropped one on a MK and I could have swore he just walked right through it, without it blowing. Are they strictly timed now?

Yeah, they don't blow up on contact now. Shame really, oh well.

Ghetto they took out the proxy aspect. I don't use the bombs as much anymore, but they still come in handy when the occasion arises.

They are useful for doding. So useful, that at one point I thought they had invincibility frames. But I tested that with Tobias and they don't >_>.

I'm not finding them useful. I feel like they stall me in the air, but the lack of the proxy explosion provides no use for the bomb itself. They're only effect is if the opponent is clumsy enough to both let me land AND hit them back into the bomb explosion, providing slightly extra damage.

If someone could give me an example of making good use of the bomb, especially for dodging?

So I'm just playing for the first time and I notice that you can't attack out of morphball form. Like, lay a morphball, have it explode on you so you are lifted up and back/forward and then shooting a missile out of that while you are in the air.

Is that gone or is there a new way to do it now? That was one of my favorite things about Samus.

Yeah, either I'm missing something or Hugs is. Air dodges don't change your course - after dodging the first attack the opponent knows where you're going and may very well be able to get you as soon as the invincibility frames end. Bombs give you a slightly greater degree of movement for a short time, allowing you to move out of your opponent's range so that s/he cannot simply throw out another attack. There are plenty of times the air dodge would be prefered, but the air dodge doesn't seem to blanket all of the bomb dodge's uses.

hm, I guess that something you could do with them lol

not to be inherently negative, but bombs are all but completely useless now. they were a big part of my game in Melee, so I've been having a tough time mentally training myself to not to use them at all and start again from square one

They still kind of freak your opponent out, they don't like to get to close cause they don't know when they might explode >=)

I pretty much only use them to get back to the stage, not to dodge around, I use Air dodge for that. I don't like being helpless and not invincible, no matter how small I am.

Well fast falling was part of my mindgames back in melee, since its hard to perform ariel mind games now, bombs are great if a fox tries to Uair me or something... Plus they don't really have any idea what the bomb is going to do, they are more focusing on you. The only thing I wish is that there was some way to immediately get out of the ball, it would just be priceless.

PLUS if any of you have seen aniki's videos, he tends to use the bombs as a stall a few feet across the edge, you could double bomb jump to do those. And well, i think it's necessary for samus to have bomb mindgames since her missles are nerfed.

Bombs are only useful as a stall if you bomb jump. Bomb jumping is way too dangerous in this game to use anywhere near your opponent. (Ergo, dont try stalling near the ledge, you are asking to get attacked)

In most cases, bombs are not going to be particularly useful anymore. If your opponent plays a quick enough character to catch you out of your air dodge, its likely bombs will put you in no better a situation...but there are still a few cases where the bombs will work to your advantage.

Samus got jacked big time in Brawl. I still use her as a main, but like everyone has stated, bombs are almost completely useless.

If they do really help with dodging, then I guess that partially makes up for it, but come on.

You know, I've been using them here and there with good effects.

Lay bomb, then stay near it while engaging your enemy with melee. They're either going to get hit by you or your bomb, or evade both giving you some much welcomed space.

No?

I dunno. I was messing around with different control settings and trying to find something neat or special with Samus. I didn't find anything. But when I had Z set to my special attacks, it let me have my specials and jump buttons on different fingers(trying to see how low you can begin spamming missiles yo... wasn't very successful, feels like a bunch of built in barriers). I found that by jumping and then immediately laying a bomb would pop me into a really low morphball compared to the standard ground based morphball that I could DI over across the ground a good bit, and then get control back instantly at the end of the morph ball animation. So I could actually go from one bomb-laying morphball near the ground to another pretty much instantly. Now if only the down-b carried some sort of invincibility frames, super armor, or you were able to attack right out of it, blargh.

Made me think of a sort of psuedo-crawl going on. I didn't get a whole lot of experience trying to put it to any sort of actual use. It does make you pretty dang small, but the only matches I tried using it in was vs. a link, that to be quite honest, completely owns me w/ his shield negating all my missiles and charge shots while having a boomerang to screw with my Zair and bombs to frustrate me getting close. All I found out was that link's bomb's have a really low trajectory when thrown now, although I did get a few times where laying a bomb tucked me into a ball and got me out of the way of an attack just in time to come out of the morph ball and hit my opponent onto the bomb for extra damage. It looked a little flashy once or twice. But I wouldn't call it useful if those matches were anything to go by.

In the air, actually airdoding is significantly better. Despite this thread, I still only rarely use it when I need to stall over the stage for something or when I'm down low and need more DI to get back to a ledge.

I hate the morph bombs now. Why did Sakurai have to change this? I bet some noob decided to complain about how gay the bombs were in melee for being able to explode on contact. Every bomb in the game explodes on contact!

Link's bombs
Bob-ombs
Motion sensor bomb
Snake's explosives
Peach bomber (okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little)

Looks like Samus drew the short end of the stick again...

Know wuts funny? Bombs actually have enough stun to gimp people off the edge too. But anyways, yeah bombs are great for mind games on and off the ground. I actually have been using them instead of rolling, then following up with a f-smash when they get hit. The time intead of proxy effect is cool cuz they think nothing of it, then get hit, stunned, and clobbered with something big.
