Bomb Catch Timing?

I'm trying to diversify my bomb game and I'm having trouble with the timing in catching the bombs I've already thrown. I've never really gone into this part of Link's game, so I really don't know what I'm doing. I'm just trying to catch it mid air by pressing A, and I just can't get the timing.

On the 3DS, you'd probably have a far easier time catching it with whatever input you have set to grab. If you hard throw a bomb up, it takes about 3 full seconds before it is right above you.
