What is the problem with it, exactly?

Not the source of the issue, but what about the laptop that isn't working correctly.

Can't open most programs
Can't save anything from those I can actually open
Can't copy/cut anything either
Can't download anything either

In other words, I can't do ****

I don't own a laptop so I'm not sure that's a sign of it being busted, but you might want to look up some of the issues you're having if you can.

It might be able to help you find out what the source of the problems are.

I've had viruses on my old laptop. Had to erase everything.

If it's a virus, I'll lose my weekend re-downloading everything instead of doing homework (knowing my luck, I'll get a lot of it on top of that ****)

If it's busted, same thing, but I waste a grand on a new laptop.

I know when my mom got one laptop for Christmas one year (might've been about two or three years ago) it had some problems pretty quickly. I don't remember what the problem was, though. :/

Laptops are obviously quite different from desktops but I don't think a laptop would be doing this sort of thing if it was busted though I might be wrong. I mean, you should be able to do all of those things albeit at an annoyingly slow rate. Are you getting an error message every time you try something?

For the programs that don't work anymore, I'm getting absolutely nothing and it just stops loading.

For those that work, it opens instantly, but when it comes to editing and/or saving stuff...

The issue sounds more like some kind of a virus to me, but then again, I still know next to nothing about how laptops work compared to desktops. (I'm pretty much the only person in my family who doesn't use a laptop currently, lol)

Again though, I'd recommend trying to look the issues up and compare them to your results. Might help you get an idea on what the issue is.
