I haven't played it yet actually.

Gonna start on it tomorrow most likely. Or later tonight, even.
I'll warn you right now, the first moments of the game are BO-RING; you basically need to make sure the villagers like you before building projects. Of course, you can still live normally like any other AC game while doing so, which is good...

And the projects themselves, minus a few exceptions, are unlocked randomly, which sucks. What sucks even more is that they depend on the villager's personality, so if you want something that can only be suggested by Cranky villagers and you don't have any, you won't get it...

Is there any way to get a particular villager in the town?

I would assume not, but I don't know if anything regarding that has changed or not.

The campsite projet can help give you SOME control.

Otherwise, you can visit a town with a villager about to leave said town. There's actually an online market for that all over the Internet!

Not really sure how it works though because I never tried...or cared...

Also, another bad thing about New Leaf; villagers move in on random spots in the town, but there's a way to "control" it...
Hmm.

Well, thank you for the tips and warnings. I may have more questions for you as I get further into the game.

If your next question is "can I get a dragon, a unicorn, a mammoth, a rhink with an ice cream cone for its horn, a clown sheep and a mouse made of cheese as my neighbors?"

The answer will be yes...

I'm watching these rather dated and very cheesy training videos for some reason. Don't ask, I got bored...
