I'm gonna guess Bayonetta caused most of the negative reactions.

Cloud actually seemed to be pretty positively received. And while Bayonetta already was a character idea with divided reception, it probably doesn't help her case that she was the last newcomer to be revealed for the game. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the hate for her at least partially stems from that fact.

Cloud's really fun. Once Limit Break has been charged up, that's when things get crazy. Definitely acts like Little Mac's KO punch but in this case all of Cloud's specials are powered up.
