To his defense, if it wasn't for that super armor he'd be dead. It's the only thing keeping him alive.

I honestly think he'd be just fine without it.. there is definitely another fix that they could have used instead of too much super armor. It's almost broken trying to land on the stage against Mac if they make a well placed smash attack. You have a really good chance of being back off-screen unless you have super armor moves against someone who knows Mac well
