Agreed. I also like what they did with Squidward in the storyline.

And oh yeah, that one. Since it regularly airs on Cartoon Network I've known about that one since, perhaps a year after it came out. I was rather little when I first saw it, and at the time, I kinda liked it, I'll admit. Several years passed without watching it again though, and then I watched a someone review it, took me only a very short time to realize how crappy it was.

When it comes to other bad Christmas specials, I think the live-action Grinch is most definitely up there. It pretty much destroys the atmosphere of both the original little storybook and the animated TV-special, it's dark and gloomy, and many elements of the film really just shouldn't exist in something that was originally meant to be for children.

Bad specials aside, the good ones have become a very significant Christmas tradition for many families out there today. Modern specials can't usually compete or match up to the older classics, though.
Squidward was one of my favorite parts of the special, he does care for Spongebob despite how much he's annoyed by him, and it was touching to see that from him. Also I didn't get that 'Squidward is being an ass' joke till years later, I thought the donkey was there just to mock him, I didn't know donkeys were even called that when I first watched it.

Oh, and when my older brother was younger, he was terrified of the Grinch in the live action movie. I don't blame him, I mean seriously, he looks hideous! And that's the least of that film's problems...

I think it's safe to say most of us didn't fully understand that joke, if at all when they first watched it. Every now and then I like when they slip a bit more of a mature joke into something, especially when you get a moment of realization of it years later.

Squidward was basically the main character of that special other than Spongebob himself, you wouldn't see him get a change of heart like that in a modern episode. They really did take away what made most of the cast so enjoyable as characters, sadly.

I'm not surprised. Hell, even the Whos themselves are pretty ugly too. The Grinch simply isn't one of those things that was ever meant to be live-action, and I think the same can be said for every Dr. Seuss book. There are some things which can turn out alright in live-action adaptions, Dr. Seuss stories aren't among them.

At this time I don't think I can, unfortunately.
______

Cat in the Hat was alright. The concept they went with the whole "Mother of All Messes" thing was neat, so I can at least appreciate that. The actual Cat in the Hat character.....I didn't really like how he looked.

I also recall that Seuss' widow, who owns the right to her husband's works, no longer allowed any live-action adaptions of his work after that movie was released. That's a relief. :p

Gonna try an avatar out.

...Hmm. If I had a Premium, it would be a lot better. But for now, I think it looks good.
