They're never referred to as zombies in it because The Walking Dead takes place in a world where the classic film Night of the Living Dead never came to be created, thus they live in a world where something like a zombie never became popular in culture. They also use terms like "Biters" and "Rotters" but Walkers is the first and main one to be used.

If you're willing to try a very mature and grim show then I could recommend it.

Eh, I'm not really into live action shows. Also, I prefer the shows that are more for younger audiences anyways (it fits me best ).
I think the only shows I watch that feature real live people are the Daily Show and the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

That's ok, people have their preferences. I kinda veered away from cartoons as I got older. I still watch stuff like Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry, but not much else besides that.
