Maybe not at first, but eventually, yes. It would make an exciting novel.
I know someone who is. He may not have a lot of confidence around other people, but, perhaps partially as a result, he is very considerate of others.

It's always possible to work through issues like that in some way, as difficult as it may seem.

Not surprisingly, he went through some uncouth treatment by other children. Which is probably why he is as shy as he is.
