I'm really afraid to tell them off. As I've said before, I've been really sheltered until lately, and thus was following their beliefs blindly. How can I play it like I'm still the world ignorant, close minded follower I was before? If they knew I was on the Internet unrestricted...

Them telling me not to watch the show woudn't stop me, though. I'm not their blind follower anymore. It'd just mean I can only watch it as I did before, in secret.

On a side note, though, that argument wouldn't move my dad, unless I'm mistaken. He'd talk about how it's the man God expects me to be, etc. He is NOT the 'love and tolerate,' kind of Christian.

True story:My dad once told me he met an atheist ( who also may or may not have mocked God, I can't recall, ) face to face. When he learned this, he felt a strong desire to physically harm said person. He didn't actually do it, but he attributed this to mean he was on a very righteous path.
It's good to have passion, yes, but...
At least, I know I'm gonna have to bring something to defend myself if I ever meet your dad :troll:

Sounds rather overly-religious....

I don't know the exact details or circumstances of how it's all going on, but do be careful. I hope this situation doesn't get any worse for you.

We'll see tomorrow. I'm sure my mother will at least have a small talk with me soon after tonight.

You know what's sad? My sister is a grown woman, but she's still sheltered from society and thus believes without question the stuff said around here.
Just a few weeks ago, she said an atheist and a Satanist was basically the same thing. And she didn't pull that out of nowhere; it's basically my parents' line of thinking. Maybe I'm crazy, but that train of thought makes as much sense as gasoline flavored ice cream to my mind.

It's sad to see, truly.

Well, she's going to have to move out someday, right? When she does, maybe things will change in time and she'll see the world differently.

(and the site crashed randomly for me just now for less than a minute. This better not be a double post....)

Damn, and here I thought gasoline ice cream would give me enough fuel to get through a tough day :troll:
I should probably try to stop making jokes at times like these, but I've always been that way... ^_^

Anyways, it's really sad to see what happened to your sister, Jay, and I'm surprised to see you didn't end up like her.

Also, remind me to never visit you next time I go to the USAs, because they might burn me at the stake. :urg: Yup, I'm an atheist...

That's fine, and I really don't mind. If I may roughly quote myself here,
'If we're going to nitpick and fail to accept our differences, we may as well cast aside our intelligence and go back to living with apes in the wild ( if you believe in evolution, though I personally don't.)

I really hope her mind will change as she is given the chance to discover for herself who she is.
She's a good person, I know. Sadly, she seems content to live with our parents and stay under their influence and rules forever, which includes no Internet or society interaction atm.

5 I'm a Christian and I would never burn an atheist at the stake.

Show him the lessons you've learned from MLP. Tell them you wouldn't have learnt these without it.

Hell, show him stiff by Dusty Rhoades, the "Manliest Brony in the World"

He would have to admit it shows good virtues, but I'm not sure the 'friendship' aspect would move him. He has told me many times,'You don't need anyone but the Lord.'

I don't mean to badmouth them, but I've begun finding it hard to respect them as parental figures lately.

This is directly the opposite of what the Bible teaches us. Jesus himself was friends with whores and drunkards, with the lowest of the low. He tells us we are to project his word through our own lives. If we all live an antisocial hermit life, we are not following his command and thus are sinning against him. Your father's logic is flawed.

KBG's got a point. Even though I don't give a **** about religion, I do know that Jesus wanted everyone to accept each other, despite their beliefs (or something like that...)

To answer your ealier question SG:
No, they're pretty nice to 'their own,' so to speak. The are just so judgemental of everyone else, or at least my dad sure is.

I can see why.

He too must've been raised with an extremely religious influence and cut-off from society, that's what I'm guessing.
He was raised religously, yes. But he had plenty of social interaction. I think his life was tough though. His family moved a lot, even to other countries, apparently resulting in bullying.
His dad seems, from his stories, to be half nice and half cruel. He seems to have done some nice things, but also beat at least my dad's two older brothers.

His brothers were jerks who mistreated him, and one of them ended up slamming his head into a brick wall in a bike wreck and losing his mind, and his other brother is dead too, as is his dad. Not sure about his mother, but she doesn't sound exactly pleasant, though.

Just quote what I said above. He should see the flaw in his logic.

I feel sorry for your dad right now, Jay :(
If I knew he had such a hard life, I wouldn't have made that "burn at the stake" bit in one of my ealier posts.

Anyway, my guess would be that he doesn't want the same thing to happen to his children, which could actually explain a lot about how he raises you and your sis.

EDIT: What KoP said below actually makes more sense :)

That's just absolutely awful. I think I can see why he turned out to be what he is then. Unfortunate he seems to see it all as that being enough justification to completely keep you (and your sister) out of the outside world. (I imagine your mother must have had at least one similar factor in her childhood if she wants to keep her family like that as well).

It seems like it all stems from past experience and paranoia, though I figured it probably would've been quite sometime before you shared those details.
