Biggest Online Fear?

I had a quick search and didn't see anything that looked too similar to this thread... if I'm wrong then go ahead and lock this.

Now to the point; with Brawl so close in Japan and US, the game is likely to go gold very soon. The site updates havn't shown me what I'd hoped as far as online goes, and I'm pretty worried about a few things.

Nintendo have dubbed the Wii a "family console" yet as far as we know, you only get 1 Brawl Code, rather than Mii codes. Nothing has been confirmed yet but it says to me "only 1 online profile" and that's possibly my biggest worry, since what about all your siblings or family members? Does only 1 person get to go online on the family Wii?

My next worry is having more than 1 player from the same Wii going online. We pretty much all knew by now (and the adverts confirm it) that Team Battle will be user + guest vs user + guest, but what about in free for all friend battles? Will it just be limited to 1 player per Wii? For instance, you want to battle 3 members of the forum in Brawl, but 2 of them are siblings. They're still different people, but for some reason Nintendo have made it so you can't fight both of them because they made such a simple error and didn't include the option.

I know it's possible and probably quite simple, since other online games do it, and SSB games only come once every 5 years (seems like that will be the pattern) so how can Nintendo afford to make mistakes now after online gaming has really been going for half a generation already, and is incredibly prominent now.

I let myself get a bit too angry about this the other day, and nothing has been confirmed, still I won't get my hopes up for them to be crushed.

My question is, do you agree with these worries, or do you have worries of your own?[/essay]

Obviously, when you play with 2, you automatically get teams. Otherwise loads of people would team up on the other two anyway.

But you can choose team battle seperately from Free for all anyway, which I'm assuming is always 2 vs 2.

I know the problem you're getting at, but other online games do it with no problem. Plus if this is only done in friend matches rather than random battles, the "friends" you battle will know who's teaming on them, which wouldn't be good for the teamers.

Personally I hate that people like that would stand as much of a risk as to completely ruin an online mode.

1) You'll have multiple online profiles.

2)I'm pretty sure more than 1 person can play against friends online. I'm very sure. The game is all about customization and Sakurai prefers everyone in the same room. It has no reason not to be in.

3) it's been about 7 years since Melee. And Nintendo doesn't like online.

4)Don't worry, the final product is going to be great.

3rd and 4th points I couldn't agree with more, it'll be great... just possibly not the online modes

As for your first 2 points, how can you know that? From what I've seen on the updates and adverts, there's no mention of it, and "teaming" sounds like just the kind of stupid reason Sakurai would use to not include it.

"We know you don't like it when people disconnect, so we replace them with CPUs! And you won't even know!"

I mean ohh hooray. I'd love to not know whether I was playing a CPU or a human.

I fear that I'll be playing someone over seas and then some psycho (possible Shuma) will run into my house and stab me.

But that's the great thing about Nintendo games! Thanks to friend codes, all the pedophiles in the world (all 7 billion of them) will never know where you live!

Thank god for friend codes!

Next great idea: PictoChat and local wireless needs friend codes.

Well, When you play with random people it doesn't matter who's profile you play on because nothing is recorded. And when playing with friends you choose what profile you're on first.

As for the dropped person becoming COMP, you have NO IDEA how awesome that is. If you've played Mario Kart DS, or Metroid Prime Hunters you'll know exaclty what I'm talking about. I'd rather start playing the COMP than having to start a match all over again. It'll get extremely annoying.

Wow... you seriously have some worrying problems... of course you can have 2 ppl go online with the same wii at the same time...

As for your profile problem, you gonna have to buy a whole nother wii to play a different online profile... oh wait, or you could just play the same profile cuz it doesnt make any difference at all, there is no ranking system...

I have them both, and it is a good idea.

But he's not telling us when they change? How are you EVER meant to know if there's a difference between fighting a random online match or fighting a free for all brawl against 3 CPUs! Do you go online just to do something you could do from SSB64?

I'm overreacting a bit, but it does suck.

EDIT: Yeah it is a problem, because people I'm playing will have NO idea whether it's me or my brother playing.

And how can you know 2 people can go online from the same Wii?

My biggest online fear is that Brawl won't be compatible with my router... I wasn't able to do anything online with the wii until the 3.0U firmware update. Everything works fine now, But I'm not sure about online games since I haven't tried any yet =S

1)Well, when you're playing with random people, they aren't gonna know who you are anyway. And when you're playing with friends, you can trust they won't drop out on you.

2)Two people can go online on the same Wii. Team Battle. If you can do double on 'With Anyone', then you'll probably be able to do it with friends.

My biggest fear is finding people I can actually you know... FIGHT. I am not the best player ever, but I am certainly NOT bad. Many of the people playing this game are either going to be extremely good or Grandparent Bad. I want to find someone mediocre, like me.

Perhaps this would compel me to become a pro with someone? I wish.

Annoying people abusing features within the game so nobody can win against them

Its why I'm glad theres no voice chat, as people would be arrogant and cocky. Then there would be the annoying little kids. I always turn voice chat off on every game I play

My biggest fear is also about multiple online accounts. It's only my girl and I at home, but we will be fighting over who gets to play. It's not like I can just get another Wii whenever i want, and it's very unlike Nintendo to make me :(

there will be lag, but i garantee they will add some kind of lag compensation, so at best you might get about 20ms of lag, but it could feel like 0ms of lag except its easyer to hit people with your characters moves because of the compensation

I fear either winning every time or losing every time in the random online matches

Yeah, we already knew that, but I don't like team battles particularly, and I never really have, free for all, all the way for me.

Team Battle was confirmed in the recent Japanese ads, and I admit it's slightly good news, it still doesn't mean that I can have a 4 player match:

Me
My two friends
And my brother

In a FFA match without meeting up with them in person, because Online, although it SHOULD be that convenient, isn't looking like it'll be.

Personally, I think people here think of random matches more than they should, I will be spending hardly any time on them, and mostly doing friend matches, where voice chat would be fine with people you know (even if it's just a little, you still know them) and the lag will likely be a lot less noticable and better with friend matches, since your Wii will be used to connecting to people on your FC list constantly to see their current availability etc.

I don't think lag will be too much of a problem, and I think it will be a lot less than in Dragon Ball Z online matches, which personally aren't as bad as I thought they'd be. I think if Sakurai takes care in making the game then lag should be fine.

And the game hasn't gone gold :p at least not in December. That was an already debunked rumour if I remember correctly.

It'll probably go gold soon though, if not already.

Lag, of course. I find it difficult to believe that any precise technical moves will be flawlessly executed in online matches.

Except so far the only technical things that require decent timing (that we know of), is shffling (which isn't that hard), and teching (which also won't be that hard).

But yea, I'm worried about lag, but I hope my dsl can handle it.

My biggest online and gameplay fear in general is the "tripping".
Hope it doesn't happens that often..
Ya.. I don't like it.. and it might affect the competitive scene, and so probably the online scene as well.
I hope you can switch it off, but I don't have any clue where you'd be able to do it in the menu..
