Beating the Wigi

This matchup is go****ded nuts for Olimar. I need help. So far, I've only found one real tool of his that seems to have any real priority - the grab. Since Wigi is a very offense-oriented character he's usually in my face over and over, and it's mostly just a game of shielding until I can get a grab in. I usually just play Zelda against him to win, but I want to be able to do it with Olimar also.

Wigi seems to shut down almost every option for Olimar. Occasionally I can use his up+b, but it's rare. Is there anything that can beat his insane air priority? Every single move he does goes right through the pikmin. I can usually get around this with other charcaters, but he has almost NO lag whatsoever on most of his moves.

Over+b is pretty useless also, as it takes him usually one nair to get rid of any pikmin coming his way.

My other weapon is Olimar's u-air, which seems to have some pretty insane priority and damage but it's tough to get the move in most of the time.

I need tips against Wigi. It's mostly a waiting game of going for my next grab. What's Olimar's highest priority ground move?

(I just picked Olimar up recently - this little ****er is AMAZING.)

u-tilt has the highest priority though I'm not sure if thats enough.

I find that everytime I play a weegeee, peach, or yoshi... you learn to use u-tilt and nair a lot more effectively. u tilt for instance stops peach's pesky floating dair approach.
Try it out, and experiment against the weegee.
Also go for stage counterpicks. lol.
If all else fails, picking up more than one character is always a good idea. From personal research, pikachu would be the best, but marth and falco are god choices too. Marth has a similiar aerial game to olimar, and can be easier to pick up after playing olly for awhile.

Anyways, has anyone ever tried dthrow>grab>dthrow>grab>dthrow>grab>repeat? Just keep repeating it.

If they DI backwards, just grab their landing. If they do anything, you can just grab them. I managed to get like 7 straight dthrows in one string today. I'd mix it up similar to this:

dthrow>standing grab>dthrow>running grab (followed DI)>dthrow> pivotgrab (they DIed towards me)> shieldgrab (they tried to attack me)> running forward pivotgrab behind me. It's sweet... and kinda funny at the same time. Don't attack them. Just grab over and over until they decide to jump or something.

ahah the ONLY person who lives near me in all of brawl plays luigi. I learned that luigi doesn't have much against olimar in this matchup except for his tornado, which is weird timing for the grab, and is just gay. I learned that olimar's d-tilt cancels his tornado and unless he REALLY expects it you can get a free grab off of him. His nairs aren't so much a problem for me because i spam pivot grab. Just another matchup of pivot grabbing (like snake! ....or peach sometimes)

Overall, i'd say this is about a 55/45 olimar favor. Spam those pivot grabs and stay the **** away from him

i vs. good luigi's at tournaments i go to and still no trouble, for me that is. maybe because not everyone knows this matchup as well as i do, a single person can't fluctuate the overall matchup. Still though, with all of his bull **** you should at least go almost even with them?

Icylight, maybe it's just me.
I go to enough things and have had problems with a number of luigi's HOWEVER, last week I stopped having them against one who in particular gave me problems more than anyone (I was beating him 1v1 on a 2v2).

Maybe I'm over it, but I have to actually 1v1 before I can comment any more on it.
Really though, it's hard.
If I fight any more this weekend, I'll finally know.


As an extra bonus, your best tool is jab, it makes a literal wall. It stops anything the guy has. Smashes, nair, downb, fireball, outranges his grab.
I actually could sit there and spam it.
Only his fsmash, I believe outranges it, and it's very, very close, so he will actually have to start doing that 'measuring' thing you sometimes see people do.

if ur fast u can short hop fast fall an upair without laggy landing. pivot grabs and pikmin throw will help a lot too. i get a lot of blue b throw kills in this matchup

Pikmin throw does not help even a little bit against a GOOD wigi. It takes him one aerial to destroy anything near him.

so don't spam the pikmin throw, just make sure to throw the white ones at him and he won't expect it if it's just 1 throw every now and then. This is a good thing to do against MK too, rather than force yourself to little pikmin so they can gimp you...

Wigi and MK are entirely different matchups, as MK is fair game in the air but all of Wigi's attacks will outprioritize yours.

I did manage to win against Wigi the other day, but the next match had a very sad moment. I did a perfect grab to spike off the side of Yoshi's island, fire pikmin spike and everything. Wigi shot down to the depths and I did my tether, but the spike apparently wasn't strong enough and he did a rising whorenado and knocked me off of the tether. He lived and I died.

Bricks were ****.
