ATTN TOs: Would you use a European ruleset at your big events?

We've done some stage discussing and I have a vague idea of where the regions (well, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, UK) stand. I definitely believe we can create a ruleset suitable for big events with the active regions, if people are willing to compromise on some of their ideas. France for example will probably have to allow (a bit) more than they're used to, which can partially be solved by having stage striking for the first match and stage banning for the entire set. Dutch, British, German and Spanish rulesets seem similar, but those countries might have to allow for less than they're used to.

Bottom line, would you (TOs) use a European ruleset at your big events, even if it's not completely what you're used to? The only point of creating a European ruleset is having it used at (potentially) international events.

There should be an all-european ruleset but I doubt we'll have one too soon. Most countries don't seem to like compromises so I expect endless debates...

What do you mean ? A ruleset for Brawl, or Melee ? or both ?

My knowledge of Brawl isn't good enough so I won't say anything.
As for Melee, I don't think we can find an agreement.

Anyway, I'm not sure it would be a good idea : on the one hand, we'd look more serious, but on the other hand, I like how every region has some sort of specialty. It kinda adds a flavor to each tournament :laugh:
However, even if each country has its own rulesets, some arrangements have to be made for big tournaments.

Marc on Utto's account:
I'm primarily looking at Brawl right now, because I believe the differences between rulesets are a lot smaller for that game. We could do the same for Melee, but most smashers active in this room are Brawl players anyway...

It looks like there is some interest.:)

I'd definitly use that ruleset for larger events and probably even use it for all events anyway.
This is the ruleset I'm using at current events btw:

Neutral
* Battlefield
* Final Destination
* Smashville

Counterpick
* Yoshi's Island
* Lylat Cruise
* Castle Siege
* Delfino
* Halberd
* Pokémon Stadium 1
* Brinstar
* Frigate Orpheon
* Rainbow Cruise

I'd be nice to have the same ruleset.

spanish brawl ruleset right now:

Neutral:
-Battlefield
-Smashville
-Final Destination
-Yoshi's Island
-Lylat Cruise

Counterpick:
-Delfino
-Halberd
-Castle Siege
-Pokémon Stadium melee
-Frigate
-Brinstar

we use both stage striking and stage ban.

I was thinking of striking from 5 stages for the first match, how does that sound? Specifically, are there major objections to this?

I think stage strike is by far the best option to start a set, since both players get to play in one of their best starters. So I agree with striking 5 stages

The problem is that this game doesn't have 5 neutral stages. The 5th starter stage won't be a neutral and will only be included to make stage striking even possible. I have no objections though but I just wanted to mention it since many TOs blindly include Lylat Cruise as a 5th neutral. IMO PS Melee is a better starter stage than Lylat Cruise as it doesn't have as many **** match-ups. If you do 5 starters + stage striking the stages should be:

Starter: Final Destination, Battlefield, Smashville, Yoshis Island and PS1
CP: Delfino, Halberd, Castle Siege, Lylat Cruise, Frigate Orpheon, Brinstar and maybe PS2.

I've stumbled upon the same problem, which is why we would determine the fifth stage through a vote. I made this topic first, because a vote will mean people might have to accept a result they don't like.

IMO fifth stage is either Lylat Cruise or PS1, neither of which are neutral, but close enough for stage striking. Any other options I should include in the poll? I'd rather include too many than too few.
