I never claimed to be pro at all. That's the thing. I'm just some guy that learned it all on my own, and helped some friends to do the same.

I've got a little time in with fedora as well, but ubuntu works for me, since I don't try to be a poweruser in any way. I stay off the command line if I can help it.

Honestly, all I've done is use google and educate myself on how linux works. Hasn't taken long at all.

I won't lie, I use windows 7 often as well, and I'm happy with it. Because i am really good with security for personal computers, and I know how to avoid trouble with viruses and whatnot.

Also, chill and i know each other more than just in this thread.

EDIT: Need I say more? just take a look at your thread: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=264126

"simple step-by-step"

This does not exist. I suggest looking for a total of 2-4 hours online for the answer.
You do know that you're kind of arguing against your own point here, since he was trying to do something in Windows that he already knew how to do in Linux.

My own take on the matter is there are plenty of times I find myself having to look up how to do things in Windows with varying degrees of success. Sometimes you can't even do what you're trying to do and it's easy (or at least possible) in Linux. I'm not going to try to argue that Linux is easier than Windows for the general population (most of which already knows Windows, in any event) but just because maybe you had a bad experience with Linux or couldn't figure it out or whatever doesn't mean everyone else is going to have the same problem.

(Side note: if you're going to pick on Linux, saying it's hard to find applications is a really bad point to make. Ubuntu's application manager basically doesn't exist for any other desktop OS. It makes installing programs about as easy as it gets, and IMO it beats both Windows and Mac in that respect--package managers in general are a strong point of Linux distros. The only other points I could see you making are (1) XYZ program doesn't exist on Linux (it may not, but there might be alternatives) or (2) there is no equivalently powerful program to accomplish XYZ task (which may be true, but whether this is relevant depends on your individual needs).)

Maybe, but how many times did you find yourself looking online for help or perhaps edits/mods to make your computer do something like the old one did.

Ubuntu looks fine when you first install it but compared to Windows Aero it looks a bit crappy. I know you can make it have transparency and what not but I think you'd need some sort of knowledge on how Linux works to install these mods and then try to understand the complete different file system Linux uses.
I've googled some things, but a new Windows user would do the exact same thing. As for the so called "mods", for one thing,Compiz is a Window manager, and it looks way better than Aero. And don't tell me that its a mod. There's two steps. Set desktop effects on medium or high. Then go to preferences, CCSSM, an customize like crazy. Honestly, it took nigh no time to get the file system understood, and I love it! I have very little knowledge on how Linux works, but the neat thing about linux is that unlike Windows, Linux teaches you about itself as you use it.

And if you don't like the default, change it. Think GNOME stinks? Use KDE. Xfce.Flubox. When did you try Linux. The 1990s? It stunk back then, I'll admit, but its just plain awesome now!

Yeah, you're wrong here too. Compiz fusion looks fantastic. Aero also looks great. There's not really a clear winner in the looks department.

Sure, the default theme is plain-jane. It's SUPPOSED to be. Ubuntu will run on ancient hardware, so the default them is simple and resource-light. My current ubuntu theme looks as good or better than anything I've seen on windows 7.

*sigh* OS war...again...this time on swf =_=
Well, I use Gentoo and love it. Been a linux power user for some time now. He could just go the the IRC channel of the distro he's trying to use and install it from the Distro IRC channel.

Its debatable of which distro is better. Its honestly all opinion based. Windows is handy and all but virus comes and goes. Linux is mostly virus free but most apps won't work on it while Windows does.
