Assist Trophy reveals are stupid

Assist Trophy reveals are basically a dis-confirmation as playable fighter for the revealed character. So the more popular the character that gets revealed as Assist Trophy is, the more disappointed the fans will be. Probably the only consistent way to make the Assist Trophy reveals not a big disappointment is to reveal characters that few people care about. But then few people will care about the reveal. So Assist Trophy reveals are mostly either a disappointment or uninteresting.

Here is a fanfic story that I made:

Sakurai thought: "Geno is so popular, let's make the fans happy by including him in the game!" So the next E3 he revealed Geno as Assist Trophy. After the reveal he went to his home happily believing himself to be a blessing to the fans. But when he got home he saw that his house had been burned to the ground by angry fans. Then Sakurai learned that Assist Trophy reveals are stupid. THE END
