Armada Wins Melee at The Big House 5, Takes Home $7,268

After three full days of Smashing at the second largest Super Smash Brothers Melee tournament ever, [A]rmada is your champion after taking a close grand finals over Liquid Hungrybox. The Big House 5 was the second largest tournament ever, behind only EVO 2015 earlier this summer, and thanks to the Compendium, had a Melee prize pool of over $18,000. Like EVO 2015, #4 ranked Hungrybox once again met Armada in the grand finals and once again came up short despite bringing Armada to game 5 in another classic Fox vs. Jigglypuff match.

#2 ranked Armada was dominant once again with a 82.35% win percentage in the top 64, dropping only 3 games all tournament - 2 to Hungrybox in the finals and 1 to Mew2King in the winners finals. Along with Armada, Hungrybox impressed by taking out C9 Mango 3-1 and Mew2King 3-1. Armada will take home $8,726 for winning both the 1v1 and 2v2 tournament with his brother Android.

Hungrybox and Armada face off in a rematch of EVO 2015

With the victory at The Big House 5, Armada is sure to leapfrog a close battle with TSM Leffen for #1 on the Smashboards Rankings. Aside from the familiar finals, the top 8 featured some surprises. #59 Abate, using Luigi, managed to upset both S2J and Axe - #8 Axe took a disappointing 17th place following his EVO Top 8 performance. Abate's previous top placement was 13th at CEO 2015. Joining Axe in disappointment was another EVO top 8 player, #9 Plup, who lost hotly contested matches with #12 Shroomed and #8 Lucky. Plup sported the rare 'claw' hand grip at The Big House 5.

Many fans were delighted to see #5 COG Mew2King make a return to prominence with an impressive multi-character performance. For Mew2King, the last two months have been his strongest in years, with his 3rd place Big House 5 finish adding to his 2nd at Paragon Los Angeles 2015, 2nd at Super Smash Con, 1st at Smash @ PAX, and 5th at HTC Throwdown. On the other side though is #3 C9 Mango, who came in as the odds on favorite to match against Armada in the finals. With Leffen missing in action due to passport and VISA issues, Mango would have his best shot at redemption following EVO 2015. Yet once again, Hungrybox thwarted Mango, 3-1 - a best of 5 - in winners.

With the Big House 5 now in the books, Super Smash Brothers Melee players now enter a reprieve from the blistering summer pace of major event after major event. Next on the horizon will be Genesis III. Congratulations to all of the top 8 for an impressive display at the Big House 5!

Hungrybox once again met Armada in the grand finals and once again came up short despite bringing Armada to game 5 in another classic Peach vs. Jigglypuff match.
Armada used Fox in all 8 games he played vs Hungrybox today.

AlphaZealot you forgot to mention that he also played Peach as well as Fox. He didn't just play one character. He used both characters throughout the entire tournament.

Too bad Mang0 lost; always hurts watchability. M2K should play dittos vs Hbox... his Fox disappoints too often. Congrats to Armada!

Just realized (after re-reading the article) that they paid out top 12. This makes me extremely happy that at least one national moved beyond paying out top 8.

It also means a Falcon was in the money at a national for the first time in quite a while [though not top 8.. poor S2J with the bizarre physics glitch leaving him in 9th].

These results are so weird passed the Top 10
Rudulph, Wizzrobe, and Laudandus all getting the same placing as... Scar?
HMW getting a better placing than... all those listed above, Kirbykaze, Hugs, Fly, Darkrain, etc...

I realized something really funny: losers semis (meaning loser got 4th) was the grand finals of BH4 and losers finals (loser got 3rd) was the grand finals of BH3. What a coincidence! Also H-Box has gotten second at 3 Big Houses :/

cheap win, hbox rested him on pokemon stadium and got lucky to bounce off the cliff.
First of all, that doesn't make the win cheap. There was no luck involved, knockback angles do not change randomly. Hbox tried to cross up and get the reverse hitbox on rest but came up short as was said by the commentators shortly after it happened. It was a valiant effort and does not need people like you trying murk Armada's win up.
