Hyrule Warriors is a combination between Koei-Tecmo and Nintendo which offers Legend of Zelda in a different light. It technically is the style and game play of the famed Dynasty Warriors series but with a Legend of Zelda storyline, characters, world, and content. While this isn't the first time first party a 3rd party developer developed a Nintendo franchise (i.e. Star Fox Assault (Namco) and Super Mario RPG(Square)); it is unique because the essentially grafted the world of Legend of Zelda into a per-existing gaming formula instead of creating an entirely new one.
Then we have Pokken Tournament which is being developed by both Nintendo, the Pokemon Company, and Namco-Bandai. Much like Hyrule Warriors, it is the world of Pokemon grafted and molded into the formula of the acclaimed series Tekken. It utilizes everything Pokemon has to offer while staying true to the Tekken formula. All of the fighting styles, movements, etc are similar to Tekken.
Over, people may think this is similar to Capcom including Legend of Zelda content into Monster Hunter or Platinum including Legend of Zelda/Metroid content into Bayonetta 2. This is not the case as that is just additional content and acts more of a crossover. I would not call these games as crossovers as that suggests that characters and content from both series will be included in the final product. I am not really sure what to call this but technically it's "an integration of core game play elements from one franchise with story-based content from another franchise."
Crossovers are in huge demand and usually sees high success financially and satisfaction with fans. Marvel vs Capcom, Injustice, Super Smash Bros., Jump All Stars, Mario Kart, Kingdom Hearts, Sony Playstation All Stars Battle Royal, Dissidia, King of Fighters, Street Fighter x Mega Man, Street Fighter vs Tekken, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, and many more are a variety of examples that incorporate elements from various games and franchises into a single core game. However, this "integration" method would mean combining two series with one forming the basis of the core game play with the other providing the story-focused content. This is really an interesting and hopefully successful endeavor that can build company to company relations, and provide the developers with a new experience, provide players with en entire new world that may be unknown to them.
With that in mind, what franchises do you envision being integrated together? Which ones would be successful? In addition, what if Nintendo was to do that for other companies and franchises? How would that work for Nintendo's favor? And keep in mind this isn't a crossover but an integration.
In terms of Nintendo characters in an entirely new environment, I highly support "Metroid Hunter". The game would be a combination effort between Capcom and Nintendo with taking Monster Hunter elements with Metroid content. As customization and character creation is key in "Monster Hunter", this would be the case for Metroid Hunter as players can create various Galactic Federation and bounty hunter characters who can traverse the galaxy, hunting various creatures such as Metroids, Skree, Sheegoth, or even higher boss enemies such as Kraid, Ridley, Mother Brain, and Parasite Queen. And maybe at some point, the player will come into contact with Samus in her hunt for Metroids and can offer in some teaming-up events. Players can customize and upgrade weapons, armor, skills, and even their spaceship. I think it would be a pretty cool and interesting game overall.
