I noticed at school, or even around my friends that none of them like or know anything about EarthBound.

Do any of you guys have friends that like EB?

Lol actually I don't even have friends that like Ness or Lucas in brawl.

I think only one of my friends, and even then he likes m3 better than earthbound.

I meant M3 too but lol the title would be too long. And really thats cool!

D: It's crazy though, I don't know anybody who likes the series.

Well Earthbound didn't sell so great in the states, and you know MOTHER 3 wasn't released here. So the series is unknown to a lot of people who aren't especially hard core gamers who know of it, or anyone who looked into the series after seeing Ness/Lucas in Smash.

A lot of people here recognized me as Ness when I was him for Halloween (A lot of "holy ****, that's that awesome kid from smash bros., he was the best!" XD ) but not a single person knows what EarthBound is other than the people I told.
I got one of my friends to play MOTHER3, but that's it.
Though I told my little sister to try using Ness one day in Brawl and she did great with him so she mains Ness now instead of Kirby, and I got our neighbor who's like a year older than my sister to main Lucas (and I got him M3 and EB on his laptop, he's played probably like an hour into each)

short answer:
99% No.

Haha you had one epic costume then. :p

I tried to make my cousins play EB, but all they do is make fun of it and say its' a bad game, even though they never played it. Then say another one will never come out. BUT! I find to pretty cool how you made your sister to play as Ness and your neighbor to play M3 and EB. Now that's pretty cool :D

Yes, actually I do! I know at least 10 people, and 7 of them like it because of me .

We have speed-runs sometimes too. A few months ago I did MOTHER 3 and my friend did EarthBound and we tried to see who could beat it faster. I ended up winning ;)

But yep, I do know others!

Well, I do know someone who likes EarthBound, but I'm not sure how much he likes it. He's got the game on his Wii.

I can't see how earthbound didn't sell well in the US. It was amazing D:
Mother 3 should've came in the GBA generation when it was out :l
Only 1 % of the world probably knows about the mother series lol

I'd say a good 70% of the U.S. knows Mario, and the U.S. is 4.5% of the world population. every other country with videogames (first world countries pretty much) will have Mario games.

Honestly, I have to disagree. I bet about 80 to 85% of people in the USA know Mario. He's an icon.
Why would illegal immigants not know of Mario???
Infants I can see why they wouldn't.
I work with some people who are older, age of around 55-60, some even older; they know who Mario is. "Old" people watch the news and read the newspaper. Nintendo and its icon have been subject to many stories in the nightly news and in newspapers over the years.

The only reason why it sold bad because the ******* who made the U.S. motto were pretty much ********.

"This Game Stinks!" In a Nintendo Power Magazine that was in big text and it was talking about the game, but people probably didn't read the small text, So people thought Nintendo thought this game was horrible.

Well that stinks.... and they were OBVIOUSLY talking about Belch... Bad choice for a boss to introduce the game with. They would've sold tons of copies...

Have they put up EB on the Virtual Console yet? If they haven't, huge mistake... WHY DIDN'T THEY TAKE A STAB AT SELLING M3 IN ENGLISH TO AMERICA?!?!? THE GAME WAS GREAT AND SALES IN THE USA WOULD'VE PUSHED FOR A Mother 4!!!

I'm :(

If half of Japan and half of the US knew Mario, then that alone would be greater than 1%

cause Nintendo's marketing team ****ed up big time by a) marketing the game to kids way younger (iirc it was like 8-10 year olds) then it should have been and b) making the game's marketing all about how the game "stinks". I'm sure the US would have loved EarthBound if they had marketed it right. Even if you do have a $10 off coupon, and get a free guide, if the game "stinks", I don't know about buying it...
Now NOA hates EB cause the marketing budget was like $2 million and there were only a few hundred thousand copies sold...
Pokemon could have easily ended up the same way as EarthBound. At first they wanted Clefairy to be in Pikachu's "mascot" position, following Ash and everything. CLEFAIRY. Wait, one more time, think about it... ****ING. CLEFAIRY. And the NA localizers wanted to "buff up" the Pokemon cause they thought the US wouldn't like em cause they're too cute.
But I digress...
