I don't think 34 is an accurate number for characters, and he said that by the end of the week we'd have seen that he was right twice. Where's the twice? Does he credit himself for the two character thing as being right twice?

We've already seen 18 characters.. 17 if you don't include transformations.

From Melee, there was:

Dr.Mario-removed?
Mario
Luigi
Bowser
Peach
Yoshi
Donkey Kong
Captain Falcon
Ganondorf
Falco-removed?
Fox
Ness-removed? one of the original 12
Ice Climbers-
Kirby
Samus
Zelda
Link
Young Link-removed?
Pichu-removed?
Pikachu
Jigglypuff
Mewtwo
Game and Watch-removed?
Marth
Roy

So that leaves us with 19, and without one of the original 12.

From Brawl, we've seen:

Mario
Link
Kirby
Pikachu
Fox
Samus/Zero Suit Samus
Zelda
Bowser
Donkey Kong
Yoshi
Peach

Pit
Wario
Ike
Pokemon Trainer
Metaknight
Snake

Adding these together, we have a total of 25 characters again. If this guy is right, that means that 5 of the characters we've already seen are hidden, which goes against what I previously thought..

We've seen 6 newcomers so far, so if what this guy says is true, that leaves us with 9 more to expect. At the rate they've been unveiled to us so far, it feels safe to call that inaccurate--- Pit was revealed roughly 3 months ago, and the game comes out roughly 3 months from now, so if the rate stays the same, we should only see 6 more newcomers by December. This brings the total number of characters so far up to 31 (unless Snake and Metaknight are both revealed within this time. That would make it 29), BUT, the veteran characters have been revealed at a much faster rate (almost twice as often, we have 11), and if the rate continues, we'll see 11 more by December (should the updates continue that long). This brings the total up to 43 (or 41 if Snake and Metaknight are revealed.).

I know it's not too trustworthy to go by logic and math, due to the randomosity we've seen in the updates, but I'm sure it's a hell of a lot more trustworthy than some random voice... or not! FRICK!

I really wish I knew if he was right..

This guy is basically spouting random speculation that has a good chance of happening anyway. Its not insider information, its speculative chance. If he'd predicted Pokemon Trainer as the newcomer on Monday and Peach as the veteran on Friday, when he made the prediction on Sunday, then I'd have been impressed. But he didn't, he took an educated guess and got it right, and by making his predictions about the two characters as vague as possible, it makes him sound right. And his Lucas prediction is old news. Rumours of Lucas appearing have been around since last Wednesday, he just jumped on the bandwagon.
Until he predicts an actual character profile on such and such a day, I'm far from buying it.

Why does everyone think Game & Watch is gone? The Ice Climbers are very likely to be removed. Nobody liked them, and they were in ONE game a lon gtime ago. G&W is old too, but because he is classic, one of Nintendo's FIRST major characters.

if he had said the exact character being revealed and the mechanics for said character, i would believe, but for now, it's merely a coincidence in a sea or guesses

Tbh most of his speculations seem based on common sense and quite frankly utter rubbish. Who knows what Nintendo have in store for us. I personally see Young Link being removed as Link and Zelda seem to be based on TP and Young Link doesn't really play a part in it. By that logic though there's a chance Sheik could be removed but then Zelda would sure suck :p

you loser ic's are a pain to learn but when you do learn them they are really rewarding...
Ice Climbers are easy to own with. If they don't remove them they'll certainly balance them out reasonably.

And G&W is FUN.

I'm convinced that he's a liar. Just from reading his posts and the way he says things. "I have to be vague or my sources could get in trouble." That makes no sense. If you don't reveal your sources, how can they get in trouble? He also said "I will reveal more info when the time is right."

He's obviously some moron who got lucky once and is milking it for all its worth. I'm done paying attention to this clown now.

I'll die laughing if the next "revealed" characters are Ness and the ICs. I'll also cry if they're not in brawl, ICs are my sparring partners!

Did he say Ice Climbers aren't in? I missed that one. I really hope Monday's update proves him wrong.

By the end of the week, you'll see that I'm correct with at least two of the above points.
Only one of his points was proven therefore he is a fake and a liar, unless we get an update tonight somehow that there will be 34 characters or Ness isn't in the game or something that would prove another one of his points true.

I'm always naturally wary about these kinds of things, so I say we'll just have to see.

The GameFAQs Prophet said:
I was correct on two points, as I've stated. Peach's profile and Pokémon Trainer's profile. Anyone counting those as one point is being a little too technical
He considers the Pokemon Trainer and Peach as 2 seperate points.

I don't know about this guy. He has a mix of behaviors, half of them are normally found in trolls who are doing nothing but looking for attention, and the other half are characteristic of someone who is posting legit info and not really caring who believes it or not since he knows he is right anyway.

For one thing, he never comes back to his threads. Normally, a troll would come back to their trolling threads and post more infuriating/stupid posts to get people more angry at them. This guy, however, makes a thread, then dosn't post again no matter how many people post insults directed at him.

He also had the audacity to make a second prediction (a specific one no less) after his first one prooved successful. Not many people would come back and try that if their first guess was totally randomly correct, though it's not impossible that's exactly what he did.

However, he also posts very vague "predictions". He seems to be using a similar strategy to what horoscopes and palm readers do: post such VAGUE information that there's always a way to interpret it correctly. Hordes of people believe horoscopes and other ways of telling the futur, so obviously this tactic is convincing to many people. It has the added advantage that people want to believe him, since we all of course want information on Brawl. His specific second prediction might null this arguement if Lucas is, in fact, the next confirmed character.

Calling the Trainer and Peach as 2 seperate points...Considering he posted his origional predictions IN POINT FORMAT, and the 2 characters were clearly listed as one point, suddenly deciding they were 2 seperate points sounds to me like he threw "2 points will be correct" out there at random. When one point was correct, he decided to stretch it out and claim it was actually 2 points in any way he could.

Taking into account all this, and what I read in this thread, I believe him for now. If he does turn out to be another fake, then I admit that I've been mindgamez'd by a GameFAQs member :(

So, if that guy is reading this thread (he's on GameFAQs...I doubt he is, but anyway), I have to say this:

If you do in fact have inside information, thank you.
If you are a troll, congratuations. You sir, are the most convincing troll I've seen as of yet.

[EDIT: after reading freeman123's post right under mine, I think I agree with him]

I think people underestimate pranksters. People assume that anyone who would make up stories for attention must be really stupid. But some of them are very smart. This guy could just be really good at making educated guesses of what's going to be revealed on the site. We didn't get any character last week, so maybe he guessed that they'd make up for it by giving us two the following week.

Now he's predicting Lucas will be the next newcomer revealed. Maybe he knows that that was recently announced on starmen.net. Maybe he figures that since rumors about Lucas are starting to circle the internet, Sakurai will go ahead and reveal Lucas before too many people find out about him from another source. I'm not saying the Lucas rumors are true or untrue, I'm just saying this could be what this guy is thinking.

So Lucas could end up being the next character. That won't really prove that this guy has an inside source, just that he's good at predicting the updates. If he really wants to prove himself, he should tell us what Monday's update is. And not just that it's going to be an item, character, stage, or whatever... If he could tell us exactly what character, item, stage, etc. will be revealed on Monday I'd believe him. I posted on the other site and asked him to do that and he completely ignored my post. That tells me he's full of crap.

Like I said in the other thread... the dev team is Japanese! They live and work in Japan! How is a guy on gamefaqs going to get insider information?

Some guy on IGN got inside info about Melee this long before it was released. I don't know how he did it, but he did. That guy posted the entire character list though, and didn't give vague short comments like this new guy.

How is he "convincing"? You just pointed out that he did in fact lie about him getting two of the points right. He's just a troll, nothing more.

34, or whatever number of characters is too low, and would be disappointing for most. He just wants to get us all angry. I wish this would just get either proved wrong, or just forgotten about.

He said that a newcomer would be confirmed and that a returing character would be confirmed. Those are two completely different things and they were two completely different updates. Those are also the only two things he said would specifically happen the week that they happened. He didn't say anything else would be confirmed this week. I don't trust the guy either, but you're splitting hairs just to find reasons to prove him wrong that aren't there.

The truth is, nothing that he's said has been proven wrong yet. That doesn't mean he's telling the truth, it just means he hasn't been caught in a lie yet.

It's possible that he knows, or is, the person/people that is working on regionalizing the game... or whoever is translating the web page.

I doubt it though.

yeah, he *could* be anywhere, but think realistically. He speaks fluent English, and managed to find Gamefaqs, which is far from the logical choice for a reveal, considering there's the Nsider forums, while Gfaqs is really not more than a large fan site. And if he decided to post on an unofficial site, SWF is a better choice, with 70000 members and dedicated to Smash.

Somebody help me dig this one up...

I remember reading somewhere, should've saved the source, that Sakurai said that if Mother 3 would have come out earlier, Lucas would have replaced Ness in Melee.

Where is this rumor on Starmen that Lucas is incoming, though?

It's on the official Melee site in japanese, on Ness' profile. Hold on for a couple of a minutes so I can find it and translate it.

And also, the rumor on Starmen should be in a few topics on the Smash Bros. forum of the website.

Thanks.

Here's what's bugging me. His first correct piece of info had to do with what would be updated when. I would imagine that most of the programmers, game designers, etc. within Sora have no idea of how the updates are going to happen. The DOJO is all about the hype machine, marketing, and advertising. What I imagine is going on is that Sakurai meets with a few PR people either within Sora or within Nintendo acting as liasons and decides an update schedule a week or so ahead and gets it to the web designers. For the team to be efficient, they can't be holding meetings everyday with totally unrelated departments. Programmers get info from game designers about what needs coding, but the marketing team should only be talking to the producing end of the company.

So if this guy's contact is on the marketing end, then how does he know the full roster number? If the contact is in programming/debug/design, then how is he know the updates?
Perhaps it's a producer or some similar high-ranking member of the team, but then why is such a person leaking information to a game that is crucial to his/her career?

Obviously, I know nothing about the internal workings of Sora. Just throwing this out there to add to the list of suspicious points in PuroresuGrande's "prophecy."

Yeah, I was pretty sure he was an idiot, and I guess it's official now. I just thought it was something worth looking into, because that was pretty much the luckiest guess in the world.

I think that guy posted on Gamefaqs and admitted he lied.
