Anyone in the Central Jersey going to King of the Couch in Edison on the 15th? I plan on going with a few people, since its the closest a tournament has ever been hosted by me (hometown lol). I was wondering if any other Luigis are going to be there.

Also, I cleverly disguised this thread to hide my true reason for posting: How does counterpicking characters and stages work? When am I allowed to do it/not do it/do it under limitations? Its going to be my first tournament (if I can go), so I want to make sure I don't make a fool of my myself right off the bat.

I'm also debating about whenever or not I should go all Luigi. The only other characters I have an idea about using besides my main are kirby, pit, and GW (but I'm not as good with them as I am with Luigi). I'm considering just going all Luigi to gauge my main against others, but I don't want to fight a MK first round and lose lol, any tips?

Thats the rule list! =D

If you have any further questions ask, and I'll try to answer them. Not every tourny is the same though, so asking someone pretty much immediately won't make you look like a noob "how do they deal with X here?".

Also, no I'm not going, I'm from kentucky lol. I could throw a rock and hit KFC world HQ though, which is fairly cool, maybe they'll hold a tourny there. The prize could be the secret recipie!

You should go to "Enemy Controller pres: Hurricane Meta Knight" which I should be at :bee:

It's directly on Rt 1 south and should only be like 25-30 mins away from you. Plenty of setups, great venue, well run, lots of great/top players from all over the tri-state area to play (~70 last time), and cheap to enter ($10 singles & $5 doubles). I usually end up mostly playing Melee on one of the extra friendly TVs all day though

That sounds pretty cool, I'll arrange something so I can go =D.

@Cr4sh, thanks for that list, I'll be sure to ask if i have any questions. Do we have a Stage Discussion thread? lol.

I already got a question lol, in the "set procedure" under the singles rules, it says 2. Opponents start the stage striking procedure. What exactly "stage striking?" Is that when you ban a counterpick? I know that starters are usually chosen by random, so I don't get that.

Stage striking is when you start the set. When you start the set there is 5 neutral stages. You guys take turns in which you pick a stage to be striked out. Each of you will end up striking 2 stages out and there will be only one left, thats the one you play on your first match. After the first round though you can pick one of the stages that was striked out as a counterpick. There ya go.
