I feel that upon reading the question of "how to approach" people often draw their entire focus on "what attack do I use to approach with" and the answer is primarily you shouldn't be using attacks to approach unless you scout an opening in your opponent's defence. Instead I feel what we as Roy players should focus on is refining our movement. Roy has some of the most powerful onstage movement overall in the game. Great foxtrot and dashtrot, top 10 run speed, high fall speed, low jump height and top 3 air speed allow him to be a menace at moving at ground level. Roy's strength to break through his opponent's defences comes not from his attacks but from his movement. Dash trots, fox trots, empty hops, running, walking. Understanding how the character moves and varying the pace of how you space your opponent will imo be essential in the long term meta for this character.

Completely agree. Movement should be the main focus to improve for all Roy mains. Roy can cause a lot of pressure without even making an attack.

Roy's moveset and movement is not to go all crazy for the attack but instead it is to force the opponent to make a mistake and punish and punish HARD.

I specially recommend practicing a lot of dash trots, fox trots, and short hops.

After movement the other important aspect its learning to read effectively the opponent. In one way Roy plays similar to ZZS as both are always looking for the best punish instead of going guns blazing to attack.
