Smash Wii U Another Smash Wii U direct?

Hey guys,

do you think that Nintendo publishes another Smash-dedicated direct in the next weeks? They still got a lot of features & modes to showcase for the Wii U version. And maybe they'll announce another promotion for this game, like they did with Mario Kart 8. They need to push this version, after all.

That would be nice. It's hard to say if they will do that, but they need to drum up hype for the Wii U version considering most people planning to get Smash has the 3DS version by now.

Maybe. I could see it happening since it's virtually the only big game Nintendo's releasing this Holiday season for the Wii U and Nintendo's going to try to make a killing with the bundles and Amiibo for it.

They are not hype material everyone who plays smash 4 will know they are in the game. Methinks we will get some new characters for the Wii U version which will be able to transfer to the 3ds! I can't wait for this direct hopefully it happens. :D

Mario Kart 8 got a direct about a month in advance. If Nintendo was to go down the same path, I'd expect an announcement by next friday and the direct on the Tuesday afterwards.....Squeeeeeeeee

If that's the case then I hope it's really soon. Only reason I've waited to buy a Wii U was for a console bundle with smash. I've been dying to have MK8 & Hyrule Warriors aswell, so many good games on the way but they will have to hold out since smash is number 1 priority haha.

It'll happen, it has to. I literally cannot fathom Nintendo shooting themselves in the foot by NOT releasing a Smash bundle, especially when it's so close to Christmas.

Yea that's true. The thing is I thought they would announce it by now especially since we know the release date & what not. Might have to cancel my pre order for the GameCube adapter bundle if that's the case.

I don't think there will be one, they will likely push the Mario Kart 8 bundle this holiday, and a Smash bundle for next year with all DLC, etc.

Hmm you might be right. It was already mentioned that they wanted to promote MK8 through the whole year. But Smash is still one of the big games that would fit in a console bundle.

It's already evident the release was pushed closer for NA in order to get in line before Black Friday (sorry rest of the world ), so they clearly are taking the Wii U version very seriously as something to boost the sluggish system.

I say another Smash Direct, more newcomers or not, is practically guaranteed. Practically.

Not only because they'd kinda want the Wii U version to sell well, but because Super Smash Bros is potentially a huge turning point for the system's sales as a whole. If they don't give people a reason to get it soon, it's just not gonna sell well and they missed the goldmine they've been looking for.

Agreed. They really need to push the Wii U version badly. I seriously hope they aren't banking on just the stage roster alone, especially on a game that's on both a desireable and an undesirable console (and this version being on the latter). 3D World hardly helped and MK8 didn't give it the significant boost it needed alone.

Given how the 3DS version's automatically gonna take a significant bite out of its HD counterpart's sales, Nintendo pretty much has no choice but to market the dang thing to the highest degree. I bet they're just bidding time until the post-launch hype for 3DS dies down (by next week give or take) then all advertising eyes will be on Wii U from then on.

If Sakurai and the team decided to make a lot of hype for the 3DS version (e.g., pushing Smash Run, holding the tournament at Comic Con), I'm pretty sure they'd make a lot of hype for the Wii U version.

Who knows, a Smash Bros. for Wii U Direct could be huge. It may be only one and a half (two for the Europeans/Japanese) months away now, but I think they can reignite the hype again, especially if they introduce even just one new mode.

It would be too bad if they don't make one, though, but I'll still be excited to get the game when it comes out.

Alright we've got an announcement by Sakurai that something's on the way. They'll going to detail game modes in some way (and how if not in an audiovisual-direct way?)

Sakurai also addresses a topic about differences between Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS. In his response, he mentions that an announcement is coming soon to show the exclusive features of the Wii U version, which will show the “true potential of Smash Bros.”

With Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS out, creator Masahiro Sakurai's job is only half done. When one fan asked him how it felt to be done with the development on Super Smash Bros., he replied, "I'm not done yet..."
"Game development is very hard." Sakurai went on in his column in Weekly Famitsu. "You cannot get through it without sacrificing everything, including your own private life, and you often get hurt. However, I'm grateful that so many people have been involved, for the games that are completed, and all the people who play the games."
Moving on from the topic of the 3DS version of the game to the upcoming Wii U version, Sakurai addressed questions on the topic. On the subject of compatibility between the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game, Sakurai noted, "If you have the 3DS version of Smash Bros. you will be able to use your 3DS as a controller for the Wii U version."
Sakurai also added that players would be able to share customized fighters and Mii fighters between the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game.
As for differences between the versions of the game, Sakura stated that an announcement – possibly a Nintendo Direct – highlighting the exclusive features of the Wii U version that will show the "true potential of Smash Bros." was currently in the works and will be released soon.

Whether they are "hype material" or not, they're the only newcomers without trailers/artwork so they deserve one. Dark Pit was featured in Palutena's and even if he didn't get the "Dark Pit, crashes the party?!" tagline, he was still shown, as well as in Palutena's art. It'd only be fair to give a glorious HD trailer to these two interesting characters ^_^,heck who knows maybe Dark Pit will show up too and crash some more parties
