Animation idea: More indications of exhaustion

We all know that characters are sluggish on the edge when their damage % is at 100% or more. But why is this display of exhaustion a one-off thing? I think there should be a few more changes:

1. When at 75%, characters start catching their breath when standing. The panting would increase with damage to the point where they can't stand up straight at 125%.

2. When at 125%, characters jump from the ground slower. This doesn't change jump height, just the amount of time ti takes to leave the ground.

3. When at 125%, the character's grip is weakened. I would apply this to items only, but I know some people would want it applied to grabbing opponents as well.

I chose 125% as the "point of exhaustion" because it's common enough to affect most matches but not common enough to annoy people.

No, they did it with SmackDown vs Raw and it sucks. If they do it with Brawl it will suck even harder since it doesn't take much time to lose a match.

This idea would completely break the game.Making them slower at high % makes them an easy target. And I don't even have to mention what would happen to competitive play, comebacks wouldn't exist.

Nice try,but no.

I normally survive to 200% so this would screw me over a lot. There wouldn't be much point in trying to survive at 125%+, you'd just get ***** for the humiliation.

you got it. if you are handicapped for being able to recover after being hit, you probably won't again.

Yes, because the rich getting richer definitely needs to be in this game. If you're loosing you should die because you suck! DUH!!!
Seriously, it's a bad idea. Having 100% works well for edge guarding but slowing down jumping and other things is just dumb.

No, super smash bros is to fast paced to have a feature like that.

It's a great Idea.

If... the changes were aesthetic only. Mario looks more tired, but performs the same. Just like so many games; for example, megaman. at like, 25% health, he grabs his chest, but performance is not hindered at all.

haha at 999%, your character severely bleeds while coughing up blood all over the stage. the character eventually passes out and waits to get finished off.

I'm all for the characters LOOKING more exhausted, but I don't think their gameplay should be affected other than the edge attack.

Agreed. The best playing you see in competitive smash is when someone is over 140% and has a stock up over the guy. At his high percentage he can no longer be comboed, but man can he combo his oponnent and maybe even take a stock off him..

Getting your opponents damage too high can reallllly screw you over.

It'd be cool if they took the ''heavy breathing'' animation that was popular in Megaman X games, when the blue bomber was low on health... as for affecting the gameplay other than how long it takes to climb back on the ledge, or how hard it is to break out of a grab / falling asleep from jigglypuffs singing or mewtwos hypnotism would ruin the game.

It should just affect the idle animation, just like in nintendo's other games:

Mario- Heavy breathing
Zelda- Hands on knees + heavy breathing
Metroid Prime- Heavy breathing.

I don't like the idea, someone can take advantage of that and start racking damage until their opponent gets to 125% and then get an easier kill.

Seems to be the general concensus ^^

Your idea for the characters looking more tired as they get damaged is awesome, but affecting jumps and the like would be too easy to exploit like the guy said up there with laser spam and the like, espcially for fox I mean fox is so fast imagine if just by damaging his opponent he can slow them down and increase his own speed in relation? Fox would be beyond top tier...

I really like how the characters take a long time to get back up on the edge when you are at a high damage though I thought that was really neat for melee.. it makes edgehogging people with recovery attacks like marth a bit easier since you get more invincibility frames (I think) and grab on to the edge longer as you slowly climb up. I hope that stays in :)

Yeah, like many people said, it would be awesome if only aesthetic [ah, cannot spell it]. In fact, I assumed that's what you meant when I saw the title. If it slowed you down in regular performance, definately no. Also, characters with high defense [weight in this game] would be handicapped, as there ability to survive means little. Of course, it would be possible to make it specific for character, but lets no go through that.

For visible changes, I'm all for it. It'd make the game more interested, that's for sure, and it would be awesome to snap in Camera mode [for many people, I don't use camera mode anymore].

i agree but the changes must be JUST VISUAL......... it would add a nice cgaracteristic to each player

But If they start to underperform with the more % they have... it will suck.

But i can think about a "special melle " mode with this kind of feature........ if it is an special mode.. then ill agree 100%

I would like that just without it actually affexting your gameplay, I mean When I play sisters they get me to 125 relatively quickly on a team against me so that would not be a good idea.

any indications of exhaustion should be purely cosmetic. the slow ledge climb already gets on my nerves so anything more is overkill. i think that a character should sleep is he/she is exhausted lol. just imagine a character sleeping and standing up. that would be a real taunt
