Animal Crossing Main Character apparently confirmed

Truth is I don't know how popular AC really is, although i can gather that it's a successful title for nintendo and don't blame for wanting to add it to Brawl, nor am I suprised.

But also, in a very technical way Sakurai might have been wanting to add some character towards the end of development that he's had in mind for some time, one that I might be psyched about, but has been working on other characters (AC Toon) and has run out of time to tweak poke and prod it so he exludes it.

I'm meh with an AC char. I bought AC for GCN wasn't really impressed, though it was a really fun game. Didn't scream classic or zelda level or anything though.

If a rep does get in AC char makes most sense to me. Tom Nook is ok and would be ok but he's not really the main character nor is he super important

I'm a little below "Meh" with an AC character is all im saying. It's not really a game that interests me, there in, I never played the original game and can't really relate to it or hold much respect for it's characters that I know nothing about.

Katsuya Eguchi, director of the Animal Crossing games, has been interviewed in the latest issue of Famitsu. In it he discusses the upcoming Animal Crossing game on the Wii, although one of the questions ties into Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

FAMITSU: Have you been approached to contribute Animal Forest elements for the new Smash Bros. game?

KATSUYA EGUCHI: Yes, and there is quite a funny story to it. A few months after E3 2006, (Masahiro Sakurai) contacted me and asked if I'd like to develop possible Animal Forest ideas for Smash Bros. Originally, we settled on just a quick, simple Animal Forest item, but with the success of Wild World and the Animal Forest film, he asked if I'd be up for designing additional elements. [Laughs] Fast forward a few months and I had stage and character concepts created. Sakurai chose his favorite of the stage concepts, slightly tweaked it to his liking, and we together decided on the final Animal Forest character, which is a very fun character to play. With both the stage and character I utilized ideas from the games. For example, if you play the stage at night, the sky will be dark. If you play in the winter, expect to see snow, and leaves in the autumn time. And yes, trees will be decorated on Christmas! It's really something else. I worked very hard on this one little stage! [Laughs] The Animal Crossing character is very much like the one in the games. You know, he will use his axe, fishing rod, bug catching net, and everything else from the games.

I'd always felt that the main AC guy would be the best chance for AC rep...and with the AC stage, I was almost certain that there would be an AC character in the game as well.

I'd like to know how you have the transcript of the interview if you don't even know the site it came from.

The stage can't have "Christmas" lights if it'll be released worldwide, unless he's only talking about the US version of the game. Maybe he meant holiday lights, generic ones, instead of actually having something on the 25th of December...

They had a code that made all of the bonus stages Christmas themed in Donkey Kong Country 3, and that was released world wide. The password was "MERRY", which is an obvious reference to "Merry Christmas."

1) It seems legitimate, but that's no way to ACTUALLY discern the factuality of a claim. I can't believe this on principle until I see a link or something more substantial.

2) WERE this to be true, it would essentially limit the possible AC character to either Smashkid or Nook. I would lean toward Smashkid, but we couldn't completely discount the latter, seeing as he does sell you all of those items and probably uses them himself as well.

nook cant be in for various reasons
1. he's only a side character, as opposed to the main character
2. he's been deconfirmed. get over it.

smashkid/villager is the only logical choice for an AC rep. s/he's the main character you play as, and would have a much more varied moveset.
