Also, GTA Handheld is an entirely different kettle of fish compared to the console one. If they made a f***ing GTA for Wii, loads of casuals looking to run down little old dears would buy it.

I mean seriously, I'm pretty sure that 70% of people that play GTA are casual gamers, if not more.

I hate GTA. I know other people who don't care for it. The problem is that Nintendo is just idiotic and thinks that blood, violence, and an M rating = hardcore. If they could stop being so off in their own dream world, maybe they wouldn't keep pissing off hardcore gamers.

The problem is that GTA is not the definition of "hardcore". You're not going to find soccer moms playing it, but that doesn't make it hardcore. This assumption is just stupid and it's the reason that Nintendo's throwing crap like this and Mad World at us as automatic hardcore games rather than actually working on making a game hardcore.

I dont understand how you think a DS GTA game would sell well. I dont think the target audience really cares much for the Wii.

As for Mad World...Honestly that game is just bad, it becomes the exact same **** after a couple executions, with most of the game play revolving around you going around in a really flow breaking sequence of carrying some ****er and just doing sadistic things to him.

To be fair, GTA isn't the first example of this. I don't recall Okami's rerelease doing so hot on the Wii either, for instance. I'd add No More Heroes to the list if it weren't for its impending sequel, and plenty of other games share a similar fate. I feel that the "hardcore" gaming audience exaggerates itself - they say they're the epitome of gamerdom, when in reality most of them are simply the traditional mainstream consumer. It's a social paradox.

First off, I would like to state that "hardcore" isn't the perfect term for games like GTA. It's just simply "Mature".

You need to understand what makes Nintendo what it is. It didn't get to where it is today making games with boobs, blood, and bad words. Xbox and Playstation did that. We should all know by now that Nintendo likes to avoid doing the norm. That is how the DS and the Wii were made. Nintendo is all about innovation and creativity. It isn't necessarily the GAME that makes the big deal, but how the game is played.

Nintendo is all about family gaming. If they spammed their releases with generic Mature shooters, how can they be the more respected game developer any longer?

I have my own criticisms of GTA and it is definitely not the paragon of the hardcore game, but at the same time I think you can get the OP's point. GTA is namely a rallying call for the more traditional gamer, so that a quality incarnation of the series is being ignored is a cause for concern.

There is no such thing as a "hardcore" or "softcore" game. There are only hardcore and softcore players. If you're hardcore, you'll play for hours a day. If you're softcore (A.K.A. casual), you'll just play for a few hours every now and then. Both can go to tournaments, although hardcore gamers are more likely to.

Heartz hit the nail on the head. I don't like games that seem shallow like that. I'm not talking plot-wise, but significance-wise I suppose. Gangtas are worse than worthless, and I don't like something that glorifies them.

I'm with Heartz on that term and I wouldn't even say my mind's in the gutter. I call it "casual".

Also, games are NOT black and white. There is a gray area of games that are neither hardcore nor casual. As I said, soccer moms aren't going to be playing GTA, but that doesn't make it hardcore. Just because it's bloody and violent and M-rated, it's not auto-hardcore, that's a mistake that both half of regular people and all of Nintendo make.

Halo's bloody, violent, and M-rated as well, and it's not really hardcore. It has a competitive and hardcore scene, but there's a fairly casual one as well.

I can't define a hardcore game for you. All I'm saying is that GTA is automatically assumed hardcore, and there are still people who think they're gangster who will play that and not much else. It's not necessarily a hardcore game.

"Hardcore" games are simply deeper in every meaning: Plot, gameplay, etc, while casual games take less understanding, even though they could demand more skill. Take GH for example. I consider it a casual game because it simply can be played by anyone. Yes, skill is needed for the harder stuff, but it still is simple enough for everyone to play it.

Most people didn't buy a DS for GTA. I don't think I'd like it as much as the console games tbh. And it might hurt my pretty little DS screen more than Phantom Hourglass already has. We can't have that, now, can we?

I honestly like it because of the driving around in a city aspect. Not sure why, it's just interesting to find all the cars or bikes you can and do tricks on them. That was the only redeeming quality in San Andreas for me. And cheats. Lots and lots of cheats.
